Making Room For The Miraculous

Text
Mark 2:1–5 KJV 1900
And again he entered into Capernaum, after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them. And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
Mark 2:1-5
If we get too programmed in what we do in any service, we eliminate the possibility that we will see the miraculous...
Introduction
People amaze me at just what they are capable of.
You, in fact, are capable of more than you realize.
I read recently about a man who the doctors are fascinated with. The human body has 360 joints, and the doctors believe that according to what he is currently able to do, he could be able to pop all 360 joints out of place.
To that man, I say, “More power to you.” He’s capable of extreme horror.
But we’re capable of a lot. Like putting a man on the moon. Think of that. We read over that a lot, but that’s an amazing feat.
I realized that I myself am capable of more than I had though I was… the other day, I drove by Krispy Kreme, the fresh donuts sign was on, and somehow… I kept on driving!
But the people in this place, listening to Jesus have fascinated me for some time in that they were capable of allowing a man in need of a miracle to stand aside, without access to the power of God.
Body
We should not allow ourselves to become complacent in seeing the supernatural take place in our midst.
We live at such a carnal level and state, that there are times when we have to remind ourselves that God lives on a much higher plane.
We should feel provoked to work in the business of making a place and creating an atmosphere where God can manifest Himself and show Himself to be very real.
When you look at the story of the man who was sick of the palsy, we can derive that when these friends got to the place where Jesus was, there was absolutely no place to take him.
There was no place for their need to be presented.
I believe that we, as children of God, should always strive that whatever individual walks in this building, whatever need walks into this building, whatever heart is calling out for God, that when they get here, they find that there will be a place, there will be an opportunity, there will be a place, where they can present themselves, and their need to Jesus Christ.
The Bible says that in this place where Jesus was preaching, there was no more room, even at the door.
I don’t want to seem redundant today, but there is a real possibility that we can so align ourselves and program our own minds with what we usually do, that there is not room for God to do His supernatural work!
Am I among intellectually sufficient, knowing people today to agree with me that we can actually not leave Him a place?
Even when we feel His Spirit and His touch, there might not be that opportunity for the Spirit of God to be available to somebody who has a need.
I know that by experience. I know that there are times when someone will come and they leave wondering, “It really didn’t happen, there was no place for me to present my need to the Lord. No room to receive.”
There was no exceeding opportunity for them to come into the presence of God. That’s why oftentimes when we stand here, Pastor will say, “We need to move in this realm right now! We need to walk in the Spirit of the Holy Ghost right now. There might be an opening! There might be a door that opens up that somebody will make their way from where they are, and be able to present their need to the Lord!
We’ve got to have a space.
There was no room for them. Not even in the courtyard, outside the door.
Luke mentions that they could not find a way to get this paralyzed man into the building because of the multitude.
It’s not so much sometimes that we do this intentionally, but there are always people there who are merely observers, not nearly so much as involved and participating.
What if somebody’s response to their need before God today was dependent upon you making yourself available and giving God a space to do His work and His will?!
These scriptures tell us that there was not a place for this man with a need to get in. There was no place.
I believe that this detail has more than just physical significance. That there was “no place.”
They had to create a place. They developed one. They had to push beyond everything else. They were desperate enough to do what was necessary for their friend.
There were onlookers present.
There were critical people present.
There were pharisees present, wanting to catch Jesus in something.
They were there, they were looking for a way to accuse Him.
But while all of the rest of that is going on, there is somebody that is there that has a genuine and desperate need for the Holy Ghost!
That’s why we cannot afford to let our lips be silent and our hands by our side when we come to the house of God!!!
That’s why everybody ought to engage in a church service!!!
Because somebody might be there that needs to get to the Lord Jesus Christ!!!
2 Timothy 4:1–2 KJV 1900
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
Oh yeah, we can have good church. We’ve got good singers and musicians. We can have worship that actually draws us close to the presence of God, but hopefully not at the expense of the supernatural move of the Holy Ghost!
Somebody say SUPERnatural.
That means it’s “above the natural!” Far above!
Not something that man can create or devise, but into the ABOVE! The far above what we can even imagine.
If there were to be a breakthrough today in this house, and people who don’t normally push themselves would break through to the supernatural, I wonder what possibly might happen in this sanctuary!!!
We already believe for there to be miracles and signs and wonders when we come together. What if we reach for the far above the natural for God to perform in our midst?!!
You see, God is totally divine! TOTALLY!
If you’re going to deal with God, you’ve got to get above the natural! It’s SUPER. It’s FAR ABOVE the natural.
Have you ever been in a supernatural service?
I’m talking about one of them services where even you get up there in the super, far above, presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.
He is continually pulling us to be above the earthly. To be above the mortal.
To be above the human aspect of our lives! He is pulling us into an aspect of salvation that delivers us and sets us free. It is the ability of God to do something in our lives that is FAR… ABOVE! It is SUPER… SUPER… FAR ABOVE THE NATURAL!
Ephesians 3:20 KJV 1900
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
There is a God who is in the house who is able to do far above what we can think! Or even ask!
We’ve got to find ourselves reaching and desiring to be in the SUPERnatural!
tells about a woman and a man who occasionally had a prophet visit them. And they said, “We need to build the preacher a room.”
2 Kings 4:8 KJV 1900
And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.
God’s always gonna go where He’s welcome.
It’s more than “Holy Spirit you are welcome here.” It’s an attitude that lives in the hearts of men and women where He truly feels welcome. Where He truly feels loved!
Where there is a genuine response out of the hearts of His people that says, “We love you! We want you here! We want to be in your presence!” He’s looking for that kind of place.
And so the Bible says the prophet always turned in. And so she said to her husband:
2 Kings 4:9–10 KJV 1900
And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually. Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.
2 Kings 4:9-10
We need to recognize that God sometimes is waiting and looking for a place for His Spirit to come and just SETTLE!
I want to build a place for God through my praise and through my faith and through my worship, that whenever the Holy Ghost blows in here, that He’ll decide that He’ll just settle over this congregation for a little while because He finds there SOMEBODY WHO WELCOMES HIM!
And because she that’s the way she felt about God’s prophet, God said, “I’m gonna give you a desire of your heart that you have longed for.”
I’m gonna tell you what happens when God finds a place where He’s welcome… He said, “You’re gonna have a child!”
Where there is a welcoming spirit to the presence of the Holy Ghost...
Where there is a desire in the hearts of humanity to fill and abide in the presence of God and make Him a place to come...
And make a place for His Spirit to have fellowship...
THERE’S GONNA BE LIFE!
FRUITFUL LIFE!
FRESH LIFE!
YOU’RE GONNA HAVE CHILDREN!
Where the presence of God is, you’re gonna have new life, new souls, new babes crying out in the presence of the Holy Ghost.
I’ll tell you how you know if you’re really providing a place for the Spirit of God: there’ll be hungry hearts. They’ll be coming to Him. They’ll be saying, “There’s something that’s drawing me and pulling me! I want whatever it is that I feel here!”
{SLOW IT DOWN HERE}
And God gave her a child.
And the child grew.
And one day the child grew ill. And the child died.
And do you know what she did? You know what you do when you feel no life?
You go to that room. That place you’ve made. For the holy man of God.
2 Kings 4:18-19
2 Kings 4:18–19 KJV 1900
And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers. And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.
Typical dad!
“Take him to his mother!”
2 Kings 4:20 KJV 1900
And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.
2 Kings 4:20-
“Oh, so this is what I get?!! For having faith for the presence of God?”
I’ll tell you ladies and gentlemen, if you haven’t had a problem yet, you’re gonna have one.
If you haven’t felt real desperate yet, there’ll be a day you feel that.
If you haven’t been in a crisis yet, there’ll be days where you get there!
And when you reach that place, I hope you understand that you’ve invested yourself in creating a place and making a room where you can meet with the presence of God, and you’re able to run there, and say, “Call for the prophet!”
They sent word, “Take him to the prophet’s room.” And they put him on his bed.
You know, folks, it’s not just coincidence that miraculous things happen.
God has purpose and He has design. It’s not haphazard. It’s not without meaning.
God doesn’t just wake up one morning and say, “Well, I think I’ll do something over here. Surprise somebody.”
No. There’s a seed that’s planted. There’s something that grows up into a place of fulfillment.
Sometimes, unknown to the recipient. You don’t know what you’re preparing for in tomorrow. You don’t see into the future and see what all it is that you’re investing yourself in that you might run to for tomorrow.
You don’t see what all it is you’ve been preparing in your life, so that when there’s a time that a crisis arises, you’ll have a place to go!
Ladies and gentlemen, we are not here just bidding time! We’re not here just pushing some attendance button! We are here preparing a place for the miraculous to happen! There’ll be a day when ever I need God to do something supernatural in my life… AND I... WANT TO HAVE BEEN INVOLVED... IN CREATING... A PLACE… WHERE I CAN RUN TO!
When the boy died, she ran to a room. When the boy died, she laid him on the bed of the man of God, and she shut the door.
She explained to the messenger the need, and they got up and went to the man of God. And when she met him, she told him she’s fine, but her boy is dead. And he gathered himself up and went with the woman.
Nothing is going to work until this child is resurrected. She knows where she’s placed her hope and where she’s invested herself.
And right now it seems that there’s no hope, and no response.
And the scripture says:
2 Kings 4:32 KJV 1900
And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.
“The child was upon his bed.”
This wasn’t just any bed. This is the bed we made just especially for this miraculous moment!
We didn’t know it when we built the room!
We didn’t know it when we placed the candlestick and set a stool and a table in there!
We didn’t know it when we put some covers on the bed, but one day this would be a place for the miraculous to happen in our family!
Oh, I got to tell somebody today: there IS value in you being here when the church doors are open!
There is value in you being in an altar and praying and seeking God!
There is value when you come faithfully and lift your hands and hearts in praise and worship!
YOU JUST MIGHT NEED THAT ROOM ONE OF THESE DAYS!!!
It was the prophets bed. Nobody else had been sleeping there.
And when Elisha walks in, there’s the dead body on HIS bed.
This was a special room. It wasn’t made for them. It was made for something higher than them.
“We just didn’t know that we’d need this room, and this bed, for this particular time.”
Can I propose to you, if there’d been no room, and no bed, there perhaps would’ve been no miracle.
The room provided for the prophet now becomes an incubator of new life for the boy.
It’s this room that’s gonna resurrect my dead son! It’s the contact point:
2 Kings 4:34–35 KJV 1900
And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm. Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
2 Kings 4:
God is trying to help us understand that we are preparing ourselves for when it’s time for the miraculous! When we need the supernatural! When we need something above and beyond what we are able to do on our own.
God wants what He says to become what you say.
What He sees to become what you see!
And His hand to take hold of your hand!
And when He covers, there will be warmth that comes to the body! And the revisitation of life will come to a lifeless body! Until you set up suddenly, full of life!
Oh, brothers and sisters what we’re doing today is creating a space, creating a place - there are multitudes of people who have needs, even here today - but they need a place that they can go!
And so be it that the saints of God that I’m preaching to right now are creating a place - making a room for God - where people can bring their needs, when they need the supernatural!
You got to build a place.
You make a room.
You present an opportunity. It’s there available when you need a miracle.

ILLUSTRATION: God Worked Out My Job Situation
What we’re doing today is not wasted space, wasted time, wasted anything - it’s a place for God to walk in with a supernatural touch!
Conclusion
I don’t know if you’re even aware or feel it right now, but I feel that holy anointing upon my spirit that right now, that if you have a need, you are in the presence, you are in the spirit, you are in the atmosphere, you are in the MOMENT - this is a place where prayers have been offered up!
Denial of our fleshly will has been made this week! And now we sit in the presence of the holy God of heaven, the supernatural God!
And if we would recognize it, we have created a place, THAT WE CAN RUN TO!!!
