Spiritual Gifts
Parents ever angry at you? Friends ever reject you?
Romans 5:1 ESV
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Rom 5:
Sweetness of the Gospel
If you believe this and have been impacted by this, you for sure are filled by the Spirit and have a spiritual gift

Body

What are they?
teaching, administration, faith, discernment, evangelism, pastoring, serving, encouraging, giving, leading, mercy
What are they for?
1 Corinthians 12:4–6 ESV
4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.
Illustration of God’s love on earth
World’s Last chance
Not spiritual maturity, but spiritual competency
The reason you’re still on earth—the struggle in war
How to use them?
2 Corinthians 9:3–5 ESV
3 But I am sending the brothers so that our boasting about you may not prove empty in this matter, so that you may be ready, as I said you would be. 4 Otherwise, if some Macedonians come with me and find that you are not ready, we would be humiliated—to say nothing of you—for being so confident. 5 So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead to you and arrange in advance for the gift you have promised, so that it may be ready as a willing gift, not as an exaction.
2 Corinthians 10:3–5 ESV
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
2 Cor 9:
Get the why, not only the what!
Told story of the seminary professor who wrote the commentary
Knowing Jesus, following Jesus, being associated with Jesus
Be F.A.T.
Where to use them? Where to be F.A.T.?
Think of your spiritual gifts, and listen for them. Think about how we can use you at PCAC and in Gel.
Places to serve:
administration- How? experiencing the clear Gospel, then restoring clarity and order to the body of believers
administration- How? experiencing the clear Gospel, then restoring clarity and order to the body of believers
Teacher—you are a chair-mover. Without you, we won’t have unity. We need you to care about the Word and Truth. We have opportunities to teach awana, but your peers also need you. Plenty of opportunities.
faith- How? being captivated by God’s promises, and leading others to do the same
faith- How? being captivated by God’s promises, and leading others to do the same
discernment- How? being blown away by God’s truth, and pointing out the subtle lies we collectively believe to move us in the right direction
discernment- How? being blown away by God’s truth, and pointing out the subtle lies we collectively believe to move us in the right direction
Administration—you keep the lights on to keep us from tripping! Without organization, none of this would be happening right now. We need some help with administration, things like organization, taking attendance, social media, planning events. This is all available here in Gel and our youth group.
evangelist- How? by gratefulness that YOU got to HEAR, and wanting others to hear

pastor- How? by you being shepherded toward the Good Shepherd, and wanting to walk others towards Him as well

serving- How? By having your feet washed by Jesus, and wanting to in turn wash other’s feet!
serving- How? By having your feet washed by Jesus, and wanting to in turn wash other’s feet!
encouraging- How? By being reminded constantly how God is light and hope, and in turn finding those who’ve been without hope
encouraging- How? By being reminded constantly how God is light and hope, and in turn finding those who’ve been without hope
Faith—you put everything in the right perspective. There is much need for this, and you’ll find yourself regularly attending church functions and surrounding yourself with people. We need you on various teams here, and to help lead conversations, recognize people’s fears and doubts, lead in prayer meetings. Many opportunities here.
giving- How? By receiving so much unmerited grace that you want to life a life of giving in every way!

Discernment—you are the guard rails of protection for the church. It’s good to have you as a part of leadership and administration. You are meant to excel in relationships, and you help the church make good decisions for discipleship and growth. I can look to you when I have questions about our youth group and possible decisions needing to be made.
leadership- How? by following a worthy leader, Jesus, and wanting to show others what following Jesus looks like
leadership- How? by following a worthy leader, Jesus, and wanting to show others what following Jesus looks like
Evangelism—you are the connection of the Church to the World. We can use you to come to Evangelism events, or help others learn how to share their faith, even here at Gel to find out who’s in chair 1 and minister to them. We would look to you and your expertise to notice the overlooked.
mercy- How? By your tears of joy for Christ’s heart for your hurt and pain, and wanting others to experience His embrace the same way too.
mercy- How? By your tears of joy for Christ’s heart for your hurt and pain, and wanting others to experience His embrace the same way too.
Pastor—you are the eyes of the Church. You see and feel how God feels. We can totally use you here in Gel to be a leader to engage others, empower others, or we could use you in the children’s ministry. I’d look to you to be discipled, and in turn help disciple those in chair 2.
Serving—you make the church’s vision a reality. You emulate Christ’s willingness to get down and wash people’s feet. We have lots of projects to do all the time, ranging from cleanup, to putting up chairs, to being a leader’s right hand guy or gal. We need you here.
Encouraging—you give the church a reason to keep going, especially when there is sadness, discouragement, or lack of movement. We could use you anywhere, including here in Gel. You excel in friendships, and we’d need you to help bind people together and look past any problems. You are a leader in your words, stories, and demeanor, and we need your participation on teams.
Giving—you are the fuel of the church. Rich or poor, it is your heart that is wealthy and generous with the grace you’ve been given. We need you to set an example in our youth group with how you spend your time and money, and we could use you with how to do budgets, how to do fundraising, and where to put our focus.
Leadership—you are the rudder on this ship. Your love for Christ translates into a movement in His direction. You can see the needs around us and find ways to meet them. With the right people on board, we can use you and your team to set up ministries for every gift here and see Gel and PCAC thrive in very practical ways.
Mercy—you are the compassion to the world! If your desires were fulfilled, the entire world would emulate Christ on earth, and you’d show unbelievers the Church is a safe place. Here, you will reach out to the lonely at Gel and at church. You can see who sits alone or doesn’t talk much, and you’ll surround them.
Michael Jordan
Don’t be on the sidelines with your typewriter and spectator, we need you on the front lines
There’s so much to do, and we can use you. You were meant for greatness here.

Questions

IceBreaker! Introduce yourself, and answer these questions: If you could have any dream job in the world, what would it be and why? And the opposite, what is the WORST job you can think about personally doing, and why?
From the gifts listed earlier, what describes you the most that you would enjoy? Is there anything on the list that you feel you wouldn’t enjoy? Here’s the list of gifts: teaching, administration, faith, discernment, evangelism, pastor, serving, encouraging, giving, leading, mercy
What are the most important roles in a company, in order? Is the order of important roles similar for the Church’s structure? Why or why not?
Read . What do we learn about community? What about individuality? Afterwards, summarize what the Author is trying to communicate.
As a group, identify the 4 Chairs and what each of them consists of. For someone that is in Chair 2, is there any harm in staying in that chair for their whole life? What role does being discipled/mentored play in going from chair 2 -> 3? Or chair 3 -> 4?
If someone isn’t a believer in Christ, do you think they should serve in the Church? If yes, where? If no, why not?
