Read

Luke 10:1–4 HCSB
After this, the Lord appointed 70 others, and He sent them ahead of Him in pairs to every town and place where He Himself was about to go. He told them: “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest. Now go; I’m sending you out like lambs among wolves. Don’t carry a money-bag, traveling bag, or sandals; don’t greet anyone along the road.
Luke 10:1-
Luke 10:17–20 HCSB
The Seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in Your name.” He said to them, “I watched Satan fall from heaven like a lightning flash. Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will ever harm you. However, don’t rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Luke 10:

I believe that there are 3 things to learn from this text.

1. We have a CALLING

vv. 1-2 tell us that we have a need and if you we are followers of Jesus, we have a calling.
We are called to go ahead of Jesus to make way for His coming. Telling everyone about the God that we get to serve.
We think of the harvest as the bountiful season. Everything is great, but a farmer will tell you that it is the most difficult season of the year. It means long hours. It means hard work. It means getting off your do nothing and doing something.
I think this is where we as Christ followers drop the ball most of the time concerning our faith is that it only resides within the walls of the Church, when there are people all around us searching for peace, love, and acceptance in all of the wrong places. No matter where they look outside of the Gospel and their identity in Christ, they will continue to be let down in to failure and hurt
This is the same reason why as Christians, we sometimes feel so distanced from God. It’s because we lose focus of eternity and we begin looking at the pretty shiny things the world has to offer.
Matthew 28:18-
Matthew 28:18–20 HCSB
Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Isaiah 6:8 HCSB
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: Who should I send? Who will go for Us? I said: Here I am. Send me.
Isaiah

2. Our calling is DIFFICULT

vv. 3-4 and vv. 17
I want to make it abundantly clear that when we step in to our faith, that it will not always be sunny and 75.
Jesus tells us straight up that we will face opposition. Look at the illustration:
lambs: innocent and defenseless on their own.
Wolves: are hunters and predators by nature. They are out to kill and destroy.
Praise be to God today that I serve the Good Shepherd today.
John
John 10:11 HCSB
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
The enemy has come to steal kill and destroy but I have news for you and it is something that the enemy is very aware of tonight: WE WIN
Our society community, nation, and world are ripe for revival today.
Everybody is looking for something and consistently being let down with their own finds.
There is not an oil for it. They don’t make medicine that fixes it, and a shrink can’t make it go away.
Brokenness and sin are both conditions of the human heart that can only be remedied by one thing alone and it’s salvation in the one true God.
We need to quit trying to fix brokenness with bandaids and throw the full Gospel at it.

3. Our calling is WORTH IT

vv. 20
Note the fact that Jesus tells the disciples not to focus on the things that they have accoplished, but rather look to the things that are to come.
I believe that is because if we look back at the things that we accomplish, we start to see exactly that. Things that WE (I) accomplish.
It’s so easy to lose sight of the reward that is to come to us that have give our complete live to Christ.
Colossians 3:1–7 HCSB
So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with the Messiah in God. When the Messiah, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Therefore, put to death what belongs to your worldly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, God’s wrath comes on the disobedient, and you once walked in these things when you were living in them.
Colossians
