Introduction

This passage tells us what happens the night before Jesus dies. That alone, really, should spark our interest to understand the situations of what was occurring on that night in Gethsemane. As we look at how God has written through this man we see how he has displayed the complex, dark, and depressing night that this was. Mark displays this event of Gethsemane with the most detail and emphasizes the deeply sad nature more than either of the other writers. It shows a struggle between flesh and spirit, Jesus and his dearest friends, and can teach us many things not only about the people who lived these situations, but about ourselves as well. As we go through this we can picture, with gripping details, the account of eyewitnesses who were there on that night, and saw the Savior’s struggle.
