Love God

Luke 10:26–27 NLT
26 Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?” 27 The man answered, “ ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
Luke 10:27
What does god desire for us?
Micah 6:10 NLT
10 What shall I say about the homes of the wicked filled with treasures gained by cheating? What about the disgusting practice of measuring out grain with dishonest measures?
Micha 6:10
Micah 6:8 NLT
8 No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Love is commanded by God.
Love is required by God.

Love leads to obedience.

They lawyer looks to challenge Jesus by asking him how to have eternal life. The goal of eternal life is based on the law of God as they knew it. The law teaches how to obey God and what pleases God. Love pleases God. God gives us the law so the people will obey and follow the Lord.
Luke 10:26 NLT
26 Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?”
The lawyer replies
Love the LORD your God with all your
Heart
Soul
Strength
And love your neighbor as yourself.

The blessing in keeping the law...

Luke 10:28 NLT
28 “Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!”
Luke 10:
Loving God is not made to be simple and convenient.
Loving God is also loving your neighbor.

Who is my neighbor?

I know who God is and I love God. I love my family. Do I really need to love other people?
Jesus teaches how we are to live out his great command to follow the Lord. Theses two great commands hold the truth of how to live for the Lord.
Jesu tells this parable to teach how we should live out this truth.

Parable of the Good Samaritan

Luke 10:30–37 NLT
30 Jesus replied with a story: “A Jewish man was traveling from Jerusalem down to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road. 31 “By chance a priest came along. But when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by. 32 A Temple assistant walked over and looked at him lying there, but he also passed by on the other side. 33 “Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him. 34 Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. 35 The next day he handed the innkeeper two silver coins, telling him, ‘Take care of this man. If his bill runs higher than this, I’ll pay you the next time I’m here.’ 36 “Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked. 37 The man replied, “The one who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.”
Luke 10:
This parable gives us examples of God’s love and how his creation is to love.

God’s creation to love one another

First understanding your neighbor is anyone near you.
You are to love everybody you meet.
Loving God is loving his laws.
God’s law cause us treat others with love.

Love no matter the differences

Love is not limited by wealth, ethnicity, or health.
Love binds and holds things together

Love shows mercy

All others showed no regard for the man on the road.
The Samaritan showed deep affection for a stranger.
He felt pity and sympathy for the man.
Compassion moves you do help others in need.

Love does not discriminate.

The Samaritan is hated among the Jews.
The Samaritan chose to love this Jew.
The Jews disregarded their own and a stranger is the one who showed us what love looks like in the parable.

God’s love found in Good Samaritan

God sees us with compassion.
Just like the man injured on the road.
God sees us broken, wounded and in desperate need of saving.
God’s compassion moves him to save us.
He lifts us up and heals our wounds.
He helps us get to place a safety.
Covers our debts now and days to come.
Who was the one who showed love?
The one who showed mercy.
God’s mercy and love never fails.
