Since the An*christ will make a covenant with the Jewish na*on, many people
assume that he himself must be a Jew. But there are several reasons why this
assump*on seems improbable:
1. Daniel prophesied that the prince, or the An*christ, would come from the people
who would destroy the city of Jerusalem and the sanctuary (Daniel 9: 26). Those
were the Romans who, under Titus, decimated Jerusalem and Herod’s Temple in
AD 70. Therefore, “the prince who is to come” must be a Roman prince. In other
words, he will be a European Gen*le.
2. Daniel also saw the An*christ as the “liQle horn” that arose out of the ten horns
on the head of the fourth beast (Daniel 7: 7-8, 19-26). This fourth beast
represents the Roman Empire, which followed Greece, Medo-Persia, and Babylon
in their conquest of the Jewish people.
3. The An*christ is described as history’s most vicious and wicked persecutor of the
Jewish people. Typically speaking, Gen*les persecute Jews; Jews do not!

Perilous Times
“Therefore when you see the abomina>on of desola>on which was spoken of
through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),
then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. Whoever is on the housetop
must not go down to get the things out that are in his house. 18 Whoever is in the
field must not turn back to get his cloak. But woe to those who are pregnant and to
those who are nursing babies in those days! But pray that your flight will not be in the
winter, or on a Sabbath. For then there will be a great tribula>on, such as has not
occurred since the beginning of the world un>l now, nor ever will. Unless those days
had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those
days will be cut short. Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or
‘There He is,’ do not believe him. For false Christs and false prophets will arise and
will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
Behold, I have told you in advance. So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the
wilderness,’ do not go out, or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them.
For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the
coming of the Son of Man be. Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.

Jerusalem to Be Attacked
The burden of the word of the Lord concerning Israel.
Thus declares the Lord who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the
earth, and forms the spirit of man within him, 2 “Behold, I am going to make
Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around; and when the siege is
against Jerusalem, it will also be against Judah. 3 It will come about in that day that I
will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely
injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it. 4 In that day,”
declares the Lord, “I will strike every horse with bewilderment and his rider with
madness. But I will watch over the house of Judah, while I strike every horse of the
peoples with blindness. 5 Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘A strong
support for us are the inhabitants of Jerusalem through the Lord of hosts, their God.’
6 “In that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot among pieces of wood and a
flaming torch among sheaves, so they will consume on the right hand and on the left
all the surrounding peoples, while the inhabitants of Jerusalem again dwell on their
own sites in Jerusalem. 7 The Lord also will save the tents of Judah first, so that the
glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will not be
magnified above Judah. 8 In that day the Lord will defend the inhabitants of

Jerusalem, and the one who is feeble among them in that day will be like David, and
the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the Lord before them. 9 And in
that day I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
