When all you have is Maybe! 1 Samuel 14:1-6 Anybody ever been there? You have a ¼ of a tank of gas in the car and still have 3 days till you get your check, so you say just maybe you can make it till payday! You get a call late one night and your child is in trouble and need money, but your rent is due and so you thinking how am I going to do this? You pray to the Lord and just maybe! You helped your best friend, her lights are off and she got 3 children and just maybe she will pay you before your water bill is due! You go see the doctor and he says the medicine he gave you isn’t working, but he has this one pill you haven’t tried and some people get sicker; but just maybe it will work for you! There she is the kind of woman you want to have as a wife, she got the looks the body and the right temperament, but your money is funny your change is strange, you may even drive a hoop tee and don’t even have a much furniture in your apartment but you say to yourself just maybe! Ladies we can’t forget about you. You worked hard all of your life went to school and made a good living for yourself. But you are alone and want someone to grow old with, the last few guys you met have been straight up bugaboos! You know their bugging her and bugging you! But something in you don’t want to give up, so you go on one more date and say to yourself just maybe! That’s what I call a maybe moment? It’s a time when all you had wasn’t enough. You were tired, lonely, broke, hurt and you didn’t know if it was gonna workout, you didn’t know if you would make it thru the night, you didn’t see how things would turn out but all you had was a maybe! A maybe moment is a time when you have reached the end of your rope! You’ve exhausted all of your options, but this one crazy thought keeps going thru your mind and if you can have this happen you can make it! It may be a job you been believing God for , you know you don’t have the skills ; you may not even have a way back and forth to work ,but you keep saying to yourself just maybe! It’s a point in your life where you are willing to try anything to make it Pause Maybe is not a saying out of doubt it is a saying that comes from knowing that God is able. It is a state of mind that refuses to accept what the devil is trying to do in your life. It comes from saying God I know you can fix this and if you do not I still trust in you! Listen Beloved, you are not alone many people have been where you are and God has shown up on time for them and if he did it for them. You ought to tell yourself maybe he will do it for me! There was a woman who went to 32 banks to get a loan to start her own business. All 32 banks refused to give her any money, but she went to one more bank and said to herself just maybe! Today this woman is Cathy Hughes and she owns Radio One a company that has 70 radio stations and is the first and only African American woman to head a publicly traded company! She said Just Maybe! Oh this is for the ones who may be down but not out! This is for the believers that say God’s got a blessing with my name on it, and just maybe I will make, just maybe it’s going to be alright! I believe this is where Jonathon is at in our text, but can give you the background on what is going on? Recap chap 13: Saul establishes an army 3,000 men Jonathon smites the Philistines in Gebeah Philistines become angry and assemble their army 36,000 chariots, 6,000 horsemen and unlimited soldiers Saul prepares the burnt offering and rejected by God! Israel terrified, hiding in caves, pits and under rocks. Some Israelites leave and join the Philistines. Saul in Gebeah sitting under a tree. Army down from 3,000 to 600 men And to make matters worse only 2 swords! All they had was plowshares, axes and yard hoes. Now here is where we find Jonathon. In 14th chapter. Ill equipped and unprepared for battle. One day Jonathon decides that something has to change. He tells his armour bearer “come let us go over to the Philistines garrison on the other side! In the 4th verse the word says there was a sharp rock on one side and a sharp rock on the other side. Jonathon was between a rock and a hard place he reached a point where he made a decision based on his Faith in God! So He and his armour bearer go up to the Philistines and they killed 20 philistines in an area about ½ acre .Then something strange happens. Terror seized the Philistines and they began to kill themselves. The terror was so strong even the children of Israel that went over to the Philistines camp returned to their kin and began to kill the Philistines. And the Bible says that that Day the Lord was with Israel and saved them all because Jonathon said just maybe! I believe the text gives us 3 important steps to know when you find yourself in a just maybe situation! 1st You need to keep everybody out your business! Verse 1 and 3 says that Jonathon did not tell his Father or the people. He confided on someone he knew he could trust. (His armour-bearer said in the 7 verse that he was with him). 2nd You have to know that God is on your side. Verse 6 Jonathon says lets go over to these “uncircumcised” This wasn’t just a wild chance he took; he knew something that his Father and the rest of Israel and many of you sitting here today forgot! That the Lord was on his side, not only on his side but God is on your side too! Israel were a chosen people! The bible says that we are a chosen people a royal priesthood. The Philistines were not in a covenant relationship with God, and could not expect to receive the promises of God! I thought someone would have shout right there, God say’s never would I leave you and never would I forsake you! Listen beloved that’s good news aint it? Just to know that God will be by your side when it looks like all is lost he is there. When you can’t see your way he is there. When you do all you can to mess things up he is right there to clean it up! And finally 3rd You have to have Faith! (Without it, it’s impossible to please God!) I believe the text shows us how to have victory. God is the same yesterday today and forever! He loves to have you in a position where he brings you out like nobody else can! If you can get up then look up to where your help comes from he will fight your battle! He did it for Jonathon, he did it for Moses, he did it for David, he did it for Daniel and he will do it for you! He loves when you trust in him even in crazy times, Bad times, hard times, lonely times, and in sick times you can trust in the Lord! Listen the text is tailored to teach us somethings that we find consistent with bible stories. 1. God is not concerned with numbers-he expects you to perform and not look at things the way the world does! 2. He will place you in a positions that He will get the glory! 3. All things will work for your good; they may not feel good at the time but it will be ok! He will fight your battle in fact he already won over 2,000 yrs. ago. Jesus was beat and stripped of his clothes. And hung on a cross one Friday. He gave up the Ghost and Early one Sunday morning He got up with All power in his hands! Oh Death where is thy sting Oh Grave where is thy Victory!
