Consumption of Alcohol
Consumption of Alcohol
Bible regards wine as ok.
John 2:1-11; 1 Tim 5:23; Ephesians 5:18
Jesus made wine – John 2:1-11 (wedding at Cana)
Paul instructed Timothy to drink wine (1 Tim 5:23)
(No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.)
Scripture just says don’t get drunk (Eph. 5:18)
And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,
Bible also warns us about it.
Romans 14:2; Hosea 4:11; Proverbs 20:1
One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables.
whoredom, wine, and new wine,
which take away the understanding.
Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler,
and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
How should we respond then? (Galatians 5:13)
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
If you feel free to consume alcohol, fine, but understand that bible makes clear tow things
You are not an island.
Your actions matter because they are seen by other.
Although scripture doesn’t forbid consumption of alcohol it offers strong warnings about it.
Don’t think that when you sit down to take a drink you are not (at least in some way) stepping closer to falling into sin.
Honor Your Father and Mother
Honor Your Father and Mother
Why was Noah’s response to harsh?
What did Ham actually do that was so wrong?
Even though Noah was the initial cause
Ham’s response was dishonoring to his father.
Looked upon his father
Seems to brag about it to his brothers
Showing further dishonor to his father.
Why was Canaan punished?
(Possibly) not a punishment but a pronouncement
Your sinful character will result in a curse on your family.
What can we learn from this?
Perhaps our difficulty is because we have lost the understanding of how seriously God views the respect we show our parents.
5th of the 10 commandments (Exodus 20:12)
Paul lists it as a sign of end times. (2 Timothy 3:1-5)
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
Colossians 3:20 – honoring your parent pleases the Lord
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
God’s Unceasing Sovereignty and Love in a Fallen World
God’s Unceasing Sovereignty and Love in a Fallen World
The story explains how God’s promises endure throughout the history of mankind, but within this story we are reminded of our continual need for a savior.
Paul would conclude all have sinned: (Romans 3:10;23)
“None is righteous, no, not one.” (Psalm 14:1-3)
“For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God” (Romans 3:23)
Do you need God?
A resounding Yes
We must persist in our desire for God because sin persists in its desire for us.
We must be resolute in our commitment to lead the next generation to God because Satan is resolute in his commitment to lead them away from God.
We must rest in the hope that in spite of our lifelong struggle with sin, and occasional failure to give in to it, God’s love will never fail us.
