Troy Godwin February 24, 2019 “Privilege of Walking with God” So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Galatians 5:16 _______________________________________________________________________________________ I. It may surprise you to know that believers in Christ were not always called Christians. a. They were known as Nazarenes (Acts 24:5). b. They were known as Galileans. c. They were known as Christians (Acts 11:26; 1 Pet. 4:16). d. Believers most often preferred the term Followers of the Way. (Gen. 18:20; Deut. 26:17; Isaiah 40:3; John 14:6; Acts 9:2, 24:14) II. Just as The Way described believers as a group Walk describes how a believer was supposed to live. III. There are two Separate forms of thought are found throughout scripture. IV. The idea of walking with God follows an Ancient Near Eastern Thought process. (Josh. 22:5). V. Walking with God is a privilege that existed before the creation of time as we experience it today. (Ezekiel 28:11-16) VI. Once a believer has placed their faith in Christ for salvation they are given the ability to overcome their natural tendency toward sin through the power of the Holy Spirit. a. This is a lifelong process as illustrated by Enoch (Genesis 5:21-24) b. Walking with God is a maturing process that takes time. c. This does not mean that a person will not experience failure or hardship throughout their walk with God. (1 John 1:8-10; John 5:18-20) VII.
