Last week we saw Paul defending his integrity and sincerity for the sake of Christ, the gospel and the church. This week he applies those same reasons to the need for discipline and forgiveness. Both of these things are about the good of the whole church. Both of them lead to loving restoration. Both of them are about obedience to Christ. And both of them keep the Devil at bay. Discipline and forgiveness are essential ingredients for the life of a church and need to be pursued by every individual. Once again, Paul provides a godly example as someone who forgives – and forgets – for the greater good of God’s kingdom.
