The book of Matthew signifies the beginning of the New Testament in the Bible.
You would think that a book from God would start a little differently maybe more Charles Dickens like or even Hemingway.
Many authors have started their books with more pizazz, if the Bible is truly inspired by the Holy Spirit shouldn't the most important book in the world start with more of an attention grabber?

Why a Genealogy

In the ancient world genealogies were important:
especially among nobility in making claims to titles, property or any other type of inheritance or position.
This genealogy is needed to prove that Jesus is the King of the Jews, the promised Messiah who would come forth from the seed of David.
Interestingly at the time the book of Matthew was written, the Temple in Jerusalem housed detailed and accurate genealogies of royal and priestly families and all of this information at the time of the writing would have been verifiable.
However, in 70 A.D. the temple was completely destroyed along with all the records and genealogies.
What we see through the genealogy is that God planned a way for our salvation from the very beginning.
Sending Jesus was not a spontaneous after thought but God knew the end from the beginning.
We have evidence from Scripture that even before the foundation of the world, before God even created man, He knew that man would fall and that He would have to make a way of salvation.
Ephesians 1:4–5 NASB95
just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
Matthew 25:32–34 NASB95
“All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left. “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
1 Peter 1:18–20 NASB95
knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
Matthew 25:32–34 NASB95
“All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left. “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
