Moses, a Courageous Leader
Moses was the meekest man on earth (); he is a model of meekness. He might have been meek without being faithful, but he could not have been faithful without being meek. Nor could he have been courageous without being faithful. No man’s writings have been as important to intellectual history as Moses’. He is pre-eminently the great teacher. He taught and still is teaching the fundamentals of civil and ecclesiastical law. Moses was faithful to God, to himself, and to his family, and he was faithful in all things.

From Moses we learn how to be patriots, and how patriotism, like all other virtues, is rooted in piety. He did not miss the recompense of reward. He enjoys it in Heaven, and he enjoyed it on earth when, with victory and thanksgiving on his lips, his dying gaze was fixed on the promised land.
