Be Ready!!
King James Version (KJV)
25 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
The Story of the Virgins (MSG)
25 1-5 “God’s kingdom is like ten young virgins who took oil lamps and went out to greet the bridegroom.
Five were silly and five were smart.
The silly virgins took lamps, but no extra oil.
The smart virgins took jars of oil to feed their lamps.
The bridegroom didn’t show up when they expected him, and they all fell asleep.
6 “In the middle of the night someone yelled out, ‘He’s here!
The bride-groom’s here!
Go out and greet him!’
7-8 “The ten virgins got up and got their lamps ready.
The silly virgins said to the smart ones, ‘Our lamps are going out; lend us some of your oil.’
9 “They answered, ‘There might not be enough to go around; go buy your own.’
10 “They did, but while they were out buying oil, the bridegroom arrived.
When everyone who was there to greet him had gone into the wedding feast, the door was locked.
11 “Much later, the other virgins, the silly ones, showed up and knocked on the door, saying, ‘Master, we’re here.
Let us in.’
12 “He answered, ‘Do I know you?
I don’t think I know you.’
13 “So stay alert.
You have no idea when he might arrive.
Intro: A song of old comes to mind as i think of this scripture; “ I want to be ready” ( sing a little bit of it)
That is what Jesus was talking about when he spoke this parable, Jesus knew that afte he died, was resurrected and then ascended, he would return again, and he wanted his people to be ready for his return, so that they could go back with him to the Father in Heaven.
This is what this Parable was talking about, with the Ten Virgins.
Let’s take a closer look at it and examine what Jesus was saying.
Lets look at some important details, to keep in mind as we go through this scripture:
-The Bridegroom was Christ imself
The Bridegroom was Christ himself
The Virgins are Believers, all professors of religion.
The five wise virgins are genuine believers: the five foolish virgins are false believers, those who have a false profession
The Lamps represent the lives, that is the testimony, the witness, the heart, and the profession of the Virgins.
( professing believers)
The Oil is the provision of righteousness, the supply of the holy Spirit tha is to fill the Lamps (lives) of the professing believers.
The Parable
The Parable says:Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins ( Believers), which took their lamps ( Lives), and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
“Then” refers back to the discussion they had of the Lords return back in Chapter 24.
He was saying then, ( when the Lord returns) that the Kingdom of of heaven was going to be like.10
virgins, going to meet the bridegroom,
- 5 were wise and 5 were foolish.
they all brought their lamps,
- The foolish didn't bring any extra oil with the to meet the bride groom.
they assumed wha they had in their lamps would be enough.
they had no provision of Righteousness, beyond themselves, beyond thier own Righteousness, they
had no Supply of the Holy Spirit.
- the Wise Virgins (Believers) took extra oil, they didn't depend on what they had in their lamps ( Lives ) .
As they go through life, to meet the Bridegroom (Christ), they carried some extra oil, the provision of Righteousness, a supply of
Gods Spirit.
5 were wise and 5 were foolish.
they all brought their lamps, but The foolish didn't bring any extra oil with the to meet the bride groom.
-
Verse 5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept
Here Christ tells them “that there was a long delay before the Bridegroom came and the Virgins slumbered and slept, not just the foolish virgins, but the wise too.. what he was saying was, that the Bridegroom didn’t come when they were expecting him, but he delayed his coming.
the Bible says that no man knows the day nor the hour when he shall appear.
- As we wait for the Lords return we grow weary and tired and begin to slumber and sleep.
Christ has delayed his coming longer than many thought he would.
why?
Only he knows!
Verse 6 - 9 states “And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Then came the great Summons, the cry will come as a great surprise.
At Midnight, The scriptures say, that he’s coming as a thief in the night as referred to in
At he cry, they all arose and trimmed there Lamps
all 10 virgins got up to trim there Lamp (lives)
to trim a Lamp it mean to cut the burnt part off, the the Lamp can work more efficiently, they trimmed the burnt wick which holds the fire.
they trimmed the Lamp so that there Lamp (Lives) will shine brighter for the Bridegroom
- the big problem was, the 5 Foolish virgins, didn’t bring any extra oil with them.
- no provision of righteousness
- The 5 5 foolish ask the 5 wise, who brought oil,for some of there oil, because there lamps were going out
the 5 wise said no, as per the Message bible, there might not be enough to go around
-Another words Im not missing out on this Chance of a lifetime because you didn’t pprepare,
Go buy you some oil
verses 10-13 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
While they went to buy, the Bridegroom came, so shall it be when Christ comes again, there shall be a cry and he shall appear on the eastern sky, evryone shall see him, but all won’t be ready to go with him.
when the Bridegroom came he took the 5 wise virgins in with him to the wedding.
Don’t you want to be ready to go to the wedding.
when th
the foolish showed up, but it was to late, the door was shut
after they knocked, the Bride groom answered and said “Verily I say unto you, I know you not.”
