We must refuse to put our desires above God's house. The Minor Prophets commentary puts it like this “In short, Haggai is saying, ‘Give God the supreme place in your life.’” and Jesus said to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you (Mt. 6:33) That is why I titled this first message build God's house first.

Haggai 1:1-15

  • Putting self first we are prone to wander neglecting God's house
    • Those who wander and neglect God's house are often committed, believers
    • Those who wander and neglect God's house have continual excuses.
    • Those who wander and neglect God’s house, often can’t see God’s discipline.
    • Those who wander and neglect God’s house come to never get what they are seeking
  • Put God's house first even above self
    • To put God's house first above self requires intentional and continual effort
    • To Put God's house first above self requires consistent self-evaluation in the fear of God.
  • Putting God's house above self pleases and glorifies Him, His work gets accomplished, and we get blessed.
    • When we put God's house above self, He is pleased and glorified.
    • When we put God's house above self, His work gets done
    • When we put God's house above self, He blesses us
