Exodus 33 V 11, 20-23
What do we do with Jacob wrestling
Then Jacob called the name of the place Peniel which means “I have seen God face to face and my life was spared.”
Seen God
Yahweh has a quarrel with Judah and will punish Jacob according to his ways and repay him according to his deeds. In the womb he deceived his brother, and in his manhood he struggled with God. He struggled with the angel and prevailed; he pleaded for his mercy. He met him at Bethel, and there he spoke with him.
Struggle with the Angel
The angel of Yahweh came and sat under the oak that was at Ophrah that belonged to Jehoash the Abiezrite; and Gideon his son was threshing wheat in the winepress to hide it from the Midianites.
The same Angel meets Gideon
And Yahweh said to him, “But I will be with you, and you will defeat Midian as if they are one man.”
The Angel is Jehovah/ Jesus

Gospel Grace, Given to believers
Law and Grace V 17
Law and Grace V 17
Law
Given by Moses [not his own but God’s]
reveals God’s Justice
cold and unforgiving
reveals the sinfulness of our sin
The Law did not fully reveal God
addresses men as the old creation
Demands righteousness in man
Sentences men to death
Demands what man has to do for God
Grace
Brought by Jesus
reveals God’s mercy
Brought forgiveness
Makes men into the new creation
Gives man God’s righteousness
Gives a dead man life
Tells what Christ has done for man
the law could not be done away with, it had to be obeyed to the letter, or punished to the letter
“Do not think that I have come to destroy the law or the prophets. I have not come to destroy them but to fulfill them.
Truth
Amazing grace is one of the most recognizable songs in America
people love the sound of grace
performed 10 million times a year
but the truth that comes with it is shunned
Luke 4 16-30
They liked the grace He brought, but not the truth
if you reject truth then you reject Grace
the last plague of Egypt the first born was going to die that night
Grace saved the firstborn of all who were under the blood on the door
Truth was that the substitute animal had to die
The Glory of God
The Glory of God
Exodus 33 17 - 23
only the back side was seen
could not look full into his wondrous face
No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
But a believer
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
Because of Truth and Grace the Law is fulfilled
we have been called to see His face
to call Him Father
