4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof.

And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect.

And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth?

and why is thy countenance fallen?

7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted?

and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door.

And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother?

And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?

10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.

11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;

12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.

And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

The Curse of Cain

I’ve often heard the mark of Cain referred to in a negative way.

It wasn't a negative thing What was the curse of Cain?

Verse 11-12

 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; 12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

Fugitive is a wanderer

Vagabond b: leading an unsettled, irresponsible, or disreputable life

Cain became known as the first murderer

Cain knew what he had done was wrong

God took the very thing Cain loved the most!

Cain was a tiller of the ground!

Cain was the one that took the blue ribbon home every year at the county fair for the biggest pumpkin.

Cain was the one with the corner produce stand so to speak.

Cain was the one you would call for advice on what to plant and when to plant it.

And God took that ability from Cain!

The Mark of Mercy

God said your going to be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth.

Cain you are going to roam the earth your going to move from place to place!

Cain was crushed by this!

Cain tells God My punishment is greater than I can bear!

And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.

And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

God could have slew Cain and we would have thought it justified!

But God didn't choose to slay him for some reason God chose Mercy!

Oh The Mercy of God!

Not a mark of Judgment, but a mark of Mercy!

When God offered Himself a sacrifice for you and I He put a label on each one of us indicating our worth to Him!

2 Cor 5:21

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Your value to God is priceless!

Young person whenever the enemy comes in trying to persuade you in another direction remember that there is no price that is greater than what has already been paid!

Sin will take you further than you wanted to go, It will keep you longer than you want to stay; and it will cost you more than you can pay!

You Are Marked By Mercy

Each One of us are marked by mercy!

(KJV 1900) And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

All of us have been marked by mercy Or set apart by mercy!

The Maker of Heaven and Earth Loves You!

His desire is that you make it to Heaven!

(KJV 1900) 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

All throughout time God was watching us!

He watched us as we sinned, he watched us as we did the things we wanted to do, He watched us as we killed, stole, told lies, and turned our backs on Him!

And after watching all of that He still chose to descend from Heaven wrap Himself in Flesh.

And sacrifice himself to pay the price that sin demanded for you and I!

He decided to place Himself in the hands of His Creation!

God placed himself in the hands of sinful men!

On that day when Pilate gave the people a choice Pilate said I find no fault in Him!

I am washing my hands of it you decide!

The people cried give us Barabbas.

Let me tell you this morning this world is still crying for Barabbas!

Give us the things of this world let me finish this or that the I will get right with you!

Oh the mercy of God!

Whether you want to admit it or not God has placed a mark of Mercy on you!

You can say I am a good person if you want to, but there is a mark of mercy on your life!

Think about the things you have done in your life.

Think about the worst sin you ever committed.

Do you deserve Mercy?
