A Greater Identity
A Greater Identity
1 This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced on the Israelites before his death.
A Greater Identity
A Greater Identity
Dt
Did you catch that? Moses’ identity… “Moses the man of God” That should be our goal in life… to be God’s man or woman… That is a title that you can be proud of...
But you don’t get here without some hard decisions along the way...
The first choice wasn’t even made by Moses...
23 By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.
Heb 11.
It was his parents… The world praises the “self made man”, but in reality none of us got here without the sacrifice of others.I am so grateful for the men and women in my life that saw me for more than just an ordinary child, but more than that I am grateful to serve a God that does not consider me ordinary.
Moses had been found, along the banks of the Nile River, by no less than the royal princess of Egypt. She had adopted him and taken him into the palace where he would be trained to rule. Acts says that Moses was "learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians,” That he was powerful in speech and action. He would be trained in the arts, sciences, religion, history, and the craft of war. To continue in this household would’ve meant a life of luxury, ease, comfort, command over men, possibly even begin offered the throne of Egypt!

And yet, the passage says he refused this life. The Greek word is to reject, to deny, to say “no” to, to disown. Not only did Moses decline these luxuries, but he rejected and refused to be even a part of the family! Wow!

But was his parents’ faith enough?… He had to own it himself...
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Even in our darkest hour God saw great worth in us… something worth sacrificing for… something extraordinary.
But was his parents’ faith enough?… He had to own it himself...
24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.
25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.
The scripture says that when he grew up… He chose God!
I like what it says about growing up…
I like what it says about growing up…
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
You see Children are inherently selfish… It’s not there fault, they are programmed that way… Maturity is the act of putting childish ways behind us...
Many today are caught in a perpetual adolescence and refuse to grow up… This is Satan’s trap… He will war on us, putting our idols before us.
Our understanding of GRACE is what helps us to TRUST God and CHOOSE RIGHTEOUSNESS
11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
You see God does not make us change… we desire to change in response to His love.
Many today are caught in a perpetual adolescence and refuse to grow up… This is Satan’s trap...
It’s in sacrifice that love is demonstrated and God gave the greatest sacrifice in Jesus...
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.
We have the incredible opportunity to CHOOSE to be part of God’s family
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Paul is slick.... We are no longer slaves… but we will indeed suffer with Christ

One of the proudest moments of my life was watching our daughter Angie fall in love with God! It was amazing to see how she went from being one of the kids we piled into the van an took to church with us to being a woman of God that stood on her own faith… We all need to decide who’s son or daughter we will be.

A Greater Reward
A Greater Reward
25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.
26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.
Can I be honest with you?… I don’t love this scripture… He chose to be mistreated… I have a real hard time when people mistreat me (You see, I’m not from NY like many of you), my skin is not that thick...

But, what about real suffering… not the Starbucks guy that can’t get your name right… but honest to goodness suffering… Will be choose pain to see God’s Greater Reward.
It would have been so much easier to not stir the pot… let it go
It would have been so much easier to not stir the pot… let it go, but then Moses would not have been Moses man of God, instead he would have been Moses man...
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
You see God is using you, your life, your discomfort, your pain, your sacrifice for His purpose… but it can only be so if we choose God...
Rom 8:28
10 For you, God, tested us; you refined us like silver.
11 You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs.
12 You let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.
Ps 66.10-12

“Where are the young men and women of this generation who will hold their lives cheap, and be faithful even unto death, who will lose their lives for Christ’s, flinging them away for love of him? Where are those who will live dangerously, and be reckless in this service? Where are the men of prayer? Where are the men who count God’s Word of more importance to them than their daily food? Where are the men who, like Moses of old, commune with God face to face as a man speaks with his friend? Where are God’s men in this day of God’s power?”
