2 Corinthians 3:17 KJV 1900
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV 1900
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Text. 2 Cor 3:18; But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Introduction:
People especially women like to go for makeovers. They want to change their look for something new. Ladies always like get a new hairdo, but sometimes they go for a hairdo end up with a hair DON’T. With guys it’s much easier, for the most part we can keep the same hairstyle throughout our entire life and it’s fine. But ladies, they like to change things up. Women with straight hair want to get a perm, women with curly hair want to get their hair straightened. All because they want a new look.
There’s value in looking nice.
When you go into a job interview you want to look your best, right?
If you’re going to a fine restaurant you dress differently than when you go to McDonalds right?
Sometimes we want to put on a good attitude.
People act differently around certain company. Most of us do this to an extent.
You were fighting like cats and dogs on the way to church, but walk in holding hands smiling, but spend the whole service elbowing each other in the ribs.
We can put on a show sometimes because we want to look right.
I. God’s Children Put On Christ
Gal 3:26-27; 26For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Galatians 3:26 KJV 1900
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:27 KJV 1900
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
When believer comes to Jesus Christ by faith brings us out of darkness and into his marvelous light.
Paul writing in Colossians said 1:13; Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
So we have come out of the world, it’s sins and sensuality,
We have come out of the lies and deceit.
We have come out of the hatred and division
We have come out of
B. Baptized into Christ
This is a spiritual baptism. This is not referring to water baptism, but a spiritual baptism. Baptism is immersion. This is a spiritual transformation. The old who is dead in trespasses and sins is submerged in the spirit. This spiritual cleansing changes, or transforms the sinner into a saint. The old man born after the image of Adam dies, but a new man born in the image of Jesus Christ emerges.
If any man is in Christ he is a new creature, old things are passed away behold all things are become new.
When someone gets genuinely saved the lying will stop, Prejudice will stop, the sinning will stop.
Because we have A New Look!
Now there may be things that you need to work out, but you actively begin working them out, and cutting them out of your life as God by his Spirit reveals them to you.
II. Christ is the Image
2 Cor 3:18; But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord,
2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV 1900
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
When we look into the mirror of the word of God we see Christ’s reflection. We see what we need to be.
People often compare themselves to others. They get justification and satisfaction by comparing their strengths against others weaknesses.
We can find ourselves critical of others when we see that they aren’t measuring up to our expectations.
But when we compare ourselves to Christ’s image, we see our shortcomings.
I’ve got enough going on in my own life to worry about my brother.
Instead of putting one another down, let’s pick each other up.
That doesn’t mean that we can’t mentor others, that doesn’t mean that some tough love is needed now and then. But we all develop differently. What may have been a battle for you, isn’t a battle for some, and vica versa. We have different struggles.
It’s like parents being worried about milestones for their children. They panic if they aren’t walking by 1yr, and think something is wrong with their baby. The baby isn’t walking because it doesn’t want to walk yet.
Brendon and Zephaniah about 1mo apart. She was creeping, and crawling all over the place. Brendon was just sitting there like “Hey that’s you, I ain’t trying to do all that right now” There wasn’t anything wrong with him.
Parents are funny, they spend the first 3yrs encouraging their children to walk and talk, and spend the next 15 telling them to sit down and shut up.
So when we are looking at Christ’s image we are looking at the right example.
III. PUT ON JESUS
Romans 13:14; But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
This is a conscious effort that we have to do continually
Just prior to this verse Paul said Rom 13:12; The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
We need to cast off the things of this world, the mindset of this world, the worldly entanglements. And put on Jesus.
When we put on Jesus Christ he will give us A New Look
* He will change the way you hear
* He will change way you speak
* He will change your appearance
* He will change your behavior
* He will change your position
* He will change your tradition
* He will change your direction
* He will change your influence
* He will change your confidence
When we put on Jesus Christ, we will find that he looks good on us?
How many like it when you look good? If feels good when you get complimented on how you look! As long as it’s not obnoxious – “Hey girl how bout some fries with that shake”
We like when we get complimented. Well Christ looks good on us.
Just as Cain’s countenance changed when he sinned. God asked Cain “Why has is thy countenance fallen?” But when we put on Christ the opposite is true. Our countenance is lifted by the reflection of Christ in us!
After I’d been a Christian for a while, I went to visit one of my old friends. And he looked up at me and said, Man Corbitt, it’s like your face is brighter, like it’s shining. Now there was no light emanating from my face, but the glorious reflection of Jesus Christ was shining through!
I had A New Look!
Conclusion
It’s not a physical makeover that we need. It’s not enough to change the outside, we need to change the inside. Getting a new hairdo won’t do it, it’s a makeover from the inside out.
