No one will executed Today, for Today the LORD has rescued Israel!
No one will executed Today, for Today the LORD has rescued Israel!
Last week we left off at verse 7.
After these signs take place, do what must be done, for God is with you.
And particularly we left off at for “The God is with you.”
Now verse 9 tells us that Saul turned to go his way and God gave him a NEW heart. Now as a seminarian my mind is going because we learn how when the bible mentions heart, the heart is where decisions are made. It really speaks to what the mind does. Often we find God changes someone’s heart, what is really being changed is their mind. When a heart changes, their mind believes different things. Even you, when your heart changes about someone, you behave differently. What we should expect is that Saul was a different person. He thought differently and for the better. It also says that everything that Samuel said came to pass, “that day”. What kind of worship would you offer God, if you God was going to make everything come to pass, “This Day!!!” Here is the key to that fulfillment.
When Saul and his servant arrived at Gibeah, they saw a group of prophets coming toward them. Then the Spirit of God came powerfully upon Saul, and he, too, began to prophesy.
They saw a group of prophets coming toward them. Notice, the text does not say the prophets were prophesying as they came. First of all, how did he know that these men were prophets? I contend that their dress gave them away. Prophets don’t look like everyone else. Only you need to be like everyone else. He saw the prophets and when he saw, God’s spirit came. There really is a lot going on in this verse. What you see effects what happens to your spirit. I promise you that I am not saying don’t go to the movies and don’t television. The bible does not say that Saul swore off plays and the theater now that he was anointed, but he had occasion to see the prophets. The prophets are going to come to you, you need to go where the prophets are. You don’t come to church and you expect that God’s spirit is going to come upon you? He went to where worshipers are.
Now let’s look at that clause, and he began to prophesy. Does the passage say, his prophesy was weaker that the more experienced prophets? He was prophesying “along with” the prophets. It did not say he decided to take dress like or get business cards that say Saul prophet of the Most God. He prophesied along with the prophets. This becomes a problem now.
The problem is not for the prophets. They are used to God moving in supernatural ways. This is not a problem for them. This is not a problem for the strangers because they are hanging around the people of God and God uses his people all the time, so this is not a problem for strangers. Saul may be a little un accustomed to this because this is new to him as well.
The people the scripture says had a problem with this was “THOSE WHO KNEW SAUL”. Now some of are going to be shocked, but there are some people for them, God not possibly use anybody from my section of Brooklyn, or anyone who got the grades I got. God could not possibly use anyone who smoked as much weed as me. The problems I have had with women, the bad relationships I have been in. God could possibly believe that someone like me could be used because I don’t believe God can do that.
