การเรียกร้องให้กลับใจ / The Call To Repentance

Again we see the multitude of people who are here listening to the Saviour preach. For whatever reason they come to hear the Gospel, I will preach it to them. (Just don’t mislead them to get here! :>) )

ฟีลิปปี 1:18 ถ้าเช่นนั้นจะแปลกอะไร แม้เขาจะประกาศด้วยประการใดก็ตาม จะเป็นด้วยการแกล้งทำก็ดี หรือด้วยใจจริงก็ดี แต่เขาก็ได้ประกาศพระคริสต์ ในการนี้ทำให้ข้าพเจ้ามีความยินดี และจะมีความชื่นชมยินดีต่อไปด้วย

Philippians 1:16–18 KJV 1900

16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: 17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. 18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

The context is this, some people were encouraged to preach the Truth our of a good motive, and some people thought that by preaching the Truth they would add to Paul’s problems. Paul said, Praise the Lord either way!

คุณเลวีคนเก็บภาษี / Levi the Publican

พวกคนเก็บภาษี

In other passages he is referred to as Matthew.

He was a Jew who had gone to work for the Romans…we’ll talk about that in a minute.

He is the human penman for the Gospel of Matthew.

He would become the disciple Matthew as well.

พวกคนเก็บภาษี / Publicans

So, who was Levi/Matthew? Who were these Publicans?

Publican = Jews who worked for Rome collecting taxes that would be paid to Rome. How insulting it was for the Jews who read the promises of God how the nations would come to Jerusalem!

They were the ones who nobody really liked.

Although they were even practicing Jews, they were not accepted by the Leaders of the Jews.

10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

The Jews saw them as traitors to their nation, and the Romans still saw them as Jews...

Basically, the only people who we see being grouped together with the Publicans, were the “Sinners!”

คนบาป / Sinners

Sinners = Jews who lived as gentiles

Even though they had the blood of Abraham flowing through their veins, they lived like it was the blood of the heathen. Doing what they did and not caring for the things of their God.

Yet, they came to hear Jesus!

สาวกของพระเยซูคริสต์ / Disciples of Jesus Christ

These disciples are not the same as the 12 apostles. These are those who were following Him from the public. Many, if not most of them were probably saved as it says they were followers of Him, not just part of the multitude there.

The community and religious leaders of the Jews.

Vs. 16 - Obviously, this is not just a question like, “So, who is Christ eating with tonight? anyone we know?”

The Pharisees would never eat with someone like Christ is doing in this passage.

If you wanted to be with a Leader of that time, you had to get yourself up to their level, they would not help you out of your pit of sin.

Who goes to the doctor for no reason?

But what are we trying to get more people to do today in their physical lives? Go get checked for serious diseases as they get older. So you can catch it before it is too much.

Spiritually, many people are like the otherwise healthy person…I’m okay, it’s these sinners who need the DR. But they don’t realize the cancer that is growing inside them until it is so bad the Dr. can do nothing to help them!

Repentance -

What is it? It begins with recognition of Who God Is -

อิสยาห์ 45:22 มวลมนุษย์ทั่วแผ่นดินโลกเอ๋ย จงหันมาหาเราและรับการช่วยให้รอด เพราะเราเป็นพระเจ้า และไม่มีอื่นใดอีก

Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

It is a turning from anything and everything else AND to God for Salvation from sins. -

For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; 10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Godly Sorrow works repentance (turning to God) whereas, fleshly sorrow is the despair of the drunk who says they can’t do anything right anyway, so they return to the bottle. -

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

This is why good people don’t want to get saved, they don’t want to admit that they are sinners!

พันธสัญญาใหม่ / The New Covenant - Vs. 18-22

The Religious leaders of Jesus’ day did not accept Him as Saviour, God and King in their lives. They liked the old ways and had expected the Messiah to give comfort and reinforcement to their collection of rules and authority.
