I) Introduction

The Lords supper discussed.

II) The corruption of the Lord’s Supper

Divisions and cliques in the church that corrupted the Lords supper
God is not surprised
Anyone who stands in a divisive and cliquish situation is in terrible danger!
(NKJV)
10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
3. The Corinthians were confusing themselves (V. 20)
a. they were not honoring Christ, but each other, and themselves.
(NKJV)
3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
4. They neglected others
a. they performed “LOVE FEAST”
b. Paul ask do you not have houses to eat and drink.

III) The real Meaning of the Lords Supper

“Take eat, this is my body”
Some believe this means the small cracker you hold is the actual body of Christ.
HOW COULD JESUS HAVE MEANT THIS IS MY BODY IF HE WAS STANDING THERE?
In the cup Jesus said “This is my blood”
A symbol of the new covenant
“WHICH IS BROKEN FOR YOU”
Which represents the beating and death He Would face.
(NKJV)
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.
3. THIS DO IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME
Not just remember, but to stir up Jesus in our minds.
(NKJV)
13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh,
14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
4. We are to:\
proclaim
preach
declare
and announce
His death
His Resurrection

IV) The Lord’s Supper unworthy

Having sin in ones heart and life
if we eat and drink with sin, how can we be counted worthy.
3 consequences of taking the Lord’s Supper unworthy
Guilty of the Lord’s Death
insulting, offending, trampling, and counting the death as meaningless
(NKJV)
29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
b. A person condemns himself
c. A person is punished by the Lord
illness and death

v) 4 steps to the Lord’s Supper
