Intro:
AG:
TS: Creation work was complete.
God created the universe in 6 days and rested on the 7th.
Time passes.
We don’t know how long that time of paradise lasted.
Nature and the universe was in complete harmony.
Then comes chapter 3.
RS: Paradise was destroyed by the choice of Adam and Eve.
They were tempted and choose to sin and everything went out of harmony.
Temptation and Fall
Satan’s attack
We know the snake is Satan
Satan had rebelled against God
Probably between 1:31 and 3:1
Satan came to Eve and tempted her.
Strategy:
Got her alone
No counsel from her husband
No other source of truth and strength
Cast doubt on God’s word “has God said”
Pointed out the goodness which was denied.
Took her eyes off the abundance of the whole earth and focused on the 1 forbidden tree.
3. May well have given off a “heavenly” vibe
4. Satan lied
Promised godlike powers
Hid the bitter truth
They would know good from evil, because they would move from being good (gn 1:31) to evil
Eve’s Battle
1.
She did focus on the abundance
2.
She repeated the instructions
Notice the addition of don’t touch
Perhaps God had also told them, but it isn’t recorded in cpt 1
Perhaps Adam had added that extra protection
3.
She gave in
Consequences of Sin
Shame
Blame
It was the woman
It was the snake

Substitute
God Himself performed the 1st sacrifice:
Blood was shed
life was given so that Adam and Eve could see another day
Atonement was made and justice of God was appeased
Imagine seeing the first animal killed and knowing it was your fault.
Covering was made
He made clothes for Adam and Eve
They walked away carrying their shame
They covered it with the skin of the 1st sacrifice
This evening, we observe the Lord’s Supper.
In doing so, we also are reminded of the shame of our sin and the price it took to save us.
Although we remember His sacrifice this evening, we also remember the relationship it has provided.
We are now His children!
