5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7 As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. 9 Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; 10 take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep.

2. There is Power in the message of the Kingdom

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

The message is not to scare people

The message is to give people hope

The message must go to all people in the order described

The message is good news to the poor

We are not supposed to weigh people down

We are supposed to lead people to Jesus so that He can take the load off of them

The message sets the captives free

The message restores sight to the blind

The message releases the oppressed

The message introduces people to the Lord’s favor

3. The sent have authority

15 One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?”

13 Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” 14 Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15 One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” 16 Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.

There is a difference between “Sent” ones and “Went” ones

Sent ones have authority to heal the sick

Sent ones have authority to raise the dead

Sent ones have authority to cleanse the lepers

Sent one have authority to drive out demons

4. Authority follows those whose trust is in Lord

Learn to trust the Word of God

He has good plans - trust Him

He has healed you - trust Him

He is the provider - trust Him

He is the your protector - trust Him

5. Don’t forget those who work in the ministry

We must learn to take care of the sent ones

The tithe goes to the those who work in ministry

9 For it is written in the Law of Moses: “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.” Is it about oxen that God is concerned? 10 Surely he says this for us, doesn’t he? Yes, this was written for us, because when the plowman plows and the thresher threshes, they ought to do so in the hope of sharing in the harvest. 11 If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you? 12 If others have this right of support from you, shouldn’t we have it all the more? But we did not use this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ. 13 Don’t you know that those who work in the temple get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar? 14 In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.

You want to see miracles then get in order

17 The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, “Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain,” and “The worker deserves his wages.” 19 Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by two or three witnesses.
