Are you satisfied with your life?
Are you satisfied by life.
Is your life completely fulfilling.
Job family health achievements experiences.
Even if you are are you satisfied that so many other people are not.
Do you close a blind eye to the needs of others or do you want to help others.
Some people think that God should make everything right make my life better, heal me from sickness or get me what I need.
When trouble and suffering comes we can feel like he let’s us down or does not care.
He promises to look after us but where is he when I feel like I cant cope and my life or the life of someone I know is falling apart.
where is he then.
How does Jesus make any difference in our lives in this fallen world where there is suffering and disappointment all around us.
2 stories and then a narrative where Jesus explains what the signs are teaching us.
Jesus’ Big Call
Jesus makes a big call in the passage tonight
“I am the bread of life.
He who comes to me will not hunger.
He who believes in me will never thirst” (; he repeats himself in verses 48 and 51).
He came into the world not to give bread, but to be bread.
In other words he does not promise to give us things or relationships or experiences to satisfy us rather he promises to satisfy us himself.
The key idea to understand is that He came into the world not to give bread, but to be bread.
BUT
What does this mean look with me at Chapter 6.
A Story about Bread
John 6:5-
In verse 7 Philip said we don’t have enough money “half a years wages”
In verse 8 Andrew said this kid has a packed lunch but he only has
“five small barley loaves and two small fish”
In verses 10-14 Jesus sits everyone down gives thanks for what they have and then feeds everyone there by multiplying the meal.
Imagine the laughter and joy at the unexpected feast.
Like all you can eat ribs at Lone star.
Jesus did not work alone that day in feeding the people.
He called the disciples to partner with him.
JESUS GAVE THEM AN ABUNDANCE
like in the miricle of the water turning into wine at the wedding.
Jesus gave them more than they needed.
It points to his generousity and power to provide for us
He cared about their boddily needs.
12 Disciples had 12 Baskets
Have a look at
John 6:12-13
The disciples helped to share the love and provision of Jesus.
It points to the fact that Jesus asked the disciples to partner with him in caring for peoples needs.
He gave them more than enough for that day.
Like in exodus 16
enough for today.
This is a big theme in Jesus teaching.
he says
Matt don’t worry about tomorrow, tomorrow will bring its own worries, Today’s trouble is enough for today.
don’t worry about tomorrow, tomorrow will bring its own worries, Today’s trouble is enough for today.
We are to be the Jesus shaped community of Disciples who are still about that today.
The Eve Project
An example: Karen Sell
On Friday IWD and KAren is involved in something called the eve project.
Stats: on average one women per week murdered by partner or former partner
Eve project aims to work with women who have experienced trauma and domestic violence to help empower, find value and achieve equality (that why called Eve).
So will provide therapeutic support and supported work placement and training.
Another thought about international women’s day and the link to The Eve Project- might be good to focus on the positive aspects of empowered women rather than making it about DV alone.

Jesus cares about this tragedy and as his disciples we do too.
It is a lovely coincidence that day Jesus fed the people.
The eve van is a food truck helping to empower women who are victims of domestic abuse.
Karen is not alone.
There are many women and men here at Soul Revival who like jesus have compassion on those who have been victums of sin in this fallen world and are making a difference.
Jesus cares about our bodies and we should too.
The next story reinforces this.
Jesus Walks on Water
John 6:16-
Jesus rescues his disciples in another miraculous way.
in danger and he steps into the boat.
He could have gided the boat to shore but he got into the boat with them.
He is not arms length he is not distant.
The moment before he got in the boat they may have thought where is God why doesn’t he help and then in the next moment Jesus is getting into the boat, and in the next moment they are on the shore safe.
Do you have a storm tonight.
The answer is Jesus is with you if you believe in him he is not distant.
Just like the bread Jesus meets their physical need for safety.
That does not mean he will always intervieen in our temporal need.
Does Jesus help sometimes and not others.
Why does he not always intervieen.
I think the next next section of the passage explains this.
It is because Jesus has a bigger picture than us.
Jesus is the bread
John 6:24
The crowd was coming to him, isnt that a good thing?
They were coming for the bread not for the bread giver.
The bread giver actually says he is offering a satisfaction beyond a full belly.
they would have made him king, feed them care for them save them from the oppresor the romans.
eternal life in verse 27
They want proff they have alredy seen the sign f the bread now they want another.
Sounds similar to the Pharasiees who asked for a sign after Jesus cleared the temple.
They even talk about exodus 16.
Jesus says an astonishing statement
John 6:37-40
From heaven
:
last day
