I. Zacchaeus was a Sinner

Zaccheus meant “pure” or “innocent” - in Hebrew - the righteous one - far from this but became this - Jesus restores us to who we should be
not all sinnners respond the same - to group people
Jericho had an old town and new town - sort of like Cuyama - was given to Cleopatra by Anthony
Overtaxed Jews - sided with Romans because of $

II. Zacchaeus became a Seeker

- must become like children
He was rich but not happy
The trying to see Jesus is in the imperfect tense - indicating a continual action in past tense - the Holy Spirit does His work before us
He lost his pride - ran and climbed - when we seek it is all that we are
When we are seeking - it is important to know that realize God is doing the seeking and finding

III. Zacchaeus met the Savior

Lk - 18:25 - God can do the impossible
Gladly - is the word chairon - luke uses with salvation joy - means to rejoice
The Savior knows the sinners name - will respond when he calls

IV. Zacchaeus was surrounded by Skeptics

The word means to grumble, mutter or complain out loud - the root of the word mean the buzzing of bees

V. Zacchaeus is Saved

Numbers 5:7 NKJV
then he shall confess the sin which he has committed. He shall make restitution for his trespass in full, plus one-fifth of it, and give it to the one he has wronged.
Zacchaeus made his salvation public
Ashamed of me, ashamed of you -
Son of Abraham - a person justified by faith - Romans
Being saved gives us a heart for the poor and hurting - half his resources was a lot of money
The generosity was a proof of a change heart, not a means to it
Zacchaeus would no longer be wealthy - but he finally had real riches that would last forever
The impact was not only on him, but his family
He was already a Jew by birth, but now by belief -
Romans 2:28–29 NKJV
For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.
Romans 4:13–14 NKJV
For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect,
The Greek word for lost is apollumi - it means to destroy - we are born on our way to destruction - eternally - thus we need to be saved!
