Welcome in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This morning is the First Sunday of Lent, and today we are going to continue our journey to the Cross, and ultimately to the empty tomb. Our Lenten Journey began on Wednesday as we gathered here for Ash Wednesday. During that service we remembered our mortality as we recieved ashed in the form of the cross on our foreheads. Today we turn our attention to God’s Generous Heart.
God Generous Heart is
God’s Generous Heart touches our Hearts.
God’s Generous Heart touches our Hearts.
But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart (that is, the message of faith that we preach).
Notice that Word is not just in the mouth and but also in the heart. God understood that the heart needs to be touched by God.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it [perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]?
and even Jesus said,
For from within, [that is] out of the hearts of men, come base and wicked thoughts, sexual immorality, stealing, murder, adultery,
Mark
Watch out, brothers and sisters, so that none of you have an evil, unfaithful heart that abandons the living God.
God’s Generous Heart brings Justification.
God’s Generous Heart brings Justification.
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Romans 10:
However, we know that a person isn’t made righteous by the works of the Law but rather through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ. We ourselves believed in Christ Jesus so that we could be made righteous by the faithfulness of Christ and not by the works of the Law—because no one will be made righteous by the works of the Law.
God caused the one who didn’t know sin to be sin for our sake so that through him we could become the righteousness of God.
but all are treated as righteous freely by his grace because of a ransom that was paid by Christ Jesus.

Romans 10
All who call on the Lord’s name will be saved.
I’m not ashamed of the gospel: it is God’s own power for salvation to all who have faith in God, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Luke 24:
and a change of heart and life for the forgiveness of sins must be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
The grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people.
