Introduction

The second coming of Christ will be the greatest event in history other than the death, burial, and resurrection. It will usher in the eternal kingdom of God to rule forever and forever.
Daniel 7:13–14 ESV
“I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.

A. One event in two phases
the
the reason many people get confused about the second coming of Christ is because they don’t understand the nature of his coming. When Jesus came the first time it was first predicted by the prophets, then he came privately in Bethlehem only a few people knew about it. When he was 30 years old he came publically at his baptism and ministry. So will it be with his second coming. it has been predicted by the apostles, then he will appear privately at the rapture of the church which will be only to those who are in Christ. then he will appear publically at the end of the tribulation

The first phase - the rapture

Colossians 3:4 ESV
When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
A. It can happen at any moment
B. What will happen:
1) the Lord will descend
2) there will be a shout and the voice of the archangel
3) the dead in Christ will rise first
4) we which are alive when it happens will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air
5) we will always be with the Lord

The Second Phase - the Revelation

Revelation 19:11–16 ESV
Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
A. When will it happen?
1) at the end of the tribulation
Matthew 24:29–30 ESV
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Matthew 24:
B. How will it be?
1) it will be sudden
Matt. 24:27
Matthew 24:27 ESV
For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
2) it will be visible
Revelation 1:7 ESV
Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.
3) it will be overwhelming
2 Thess. 1:
2 Thessalonians 1:7–8 ESV
and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
C. Where will it be?
1) He will step on the mount of Olives
Zechariah 14:4 ESV
On that day his feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west by a very wide valley, so that one half of the Mount shall move northward, and the other half southward.
Zechariah 14:

Are You Ready For His Coming?

A. Two comparisons of his coming
1) it will be like the days of Noah
Luke 17:26–27 ESV
Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Luke 17:
the earth was filled with wickedness during Noah’s day
normal events of life were taking place: eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage ( they had a party life)
they were unaware of impending judgment
2) it will be like the days of Lot
Luke 17:28–29 ESV
Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all—
Luke 17:32 ESV
Remember Lot’s wife.
