The Ideal Team Player Aug 12 2018
The success of any team depends largely on the participation of every member of the team. Most of us have probably been part of a team when one or two people dragged down the whole group. Like a team, certain qualities are critical for the church to faithfully fulfill our God-given mission. We need to think about our role as a part of God’s team. What are the qualities of an ideal team player?
1. An ideal team player demonstrates HUMILITY - 1. ,
Humility is a proper understanding of ourselves (vs. 3, 16)
Humility is believing we are in this together. (vs. 4-5, 15)
Humility is contributing our gifts to this team (vs. 6-8, 13)
Humility is not thinking less of our selves
-- it is thinking of our selves less.
2. An ideal team player has HUNGER for the mission -
What words does verses 9-12 use to describe zeal in the Christian life?
Zeal pushes past the boundaries of convenience for the mission.
The passion of the Christian is the Glory of God-
2. An ideal team player uses THOUGHTFUL WORDS ().
Some call this “smartness” – do your words create conflict or generate peace?
The three questions to ask before we say anything:
Is it true?
Is it kind?
Is it necessary?
Sometimes, your actions don’t matter, only your words do.
Should you say it? Are you bearing their burden or adding to it ()?
The Godhead is the ultimate “Ideal Team,” and our perfect model of an “Ideal Team Player” is Jesus, who demonstrates Humility (), Hunger (), and used Thoughtful Words (). He is the Savior we need.
