Introduction

Resolve to Pacify Strife / Deescalate Conflict
Pacify simply means to calm somebody who is angry or agitated, or to soothe violent or angry feelings.
This can be through military action to bring peace to an area, people or situation, often using military force to end conflict. This can only be used when you are in authority. As with Pacifying strife between two children. Quite often our strife or conflict is with our equal or a superior. In these cases God has a different plan to remove conflict.
- Yielding to authority pacifies great offenses.
Vs. 17 - Don’t meddle in strife that is not yours.
(one way to avoid conflict is to stay out of other people’s business)
Vs. 18-19 - Don’t deceive your neighbors in sport (contemptuous mockery or ridicule)
Vs. 20-22 - When you are in a conflict STOP putting fuel on the fire and it will go out.
Resolve to overcome Evil or Conflict with Goodness
(9-21)
Vs. 17 - Do not return evil for evil.
( matt. 5:38-39 )
Vs. 18 - Seek to live peaceable with all men. (so everything in your power to live peaceably) (those in your house, in the household of God, and in the world in which we live)
Vs. 19 - Don’t avenge yourself even when you feel justified. ( prov. 20:22 + matt. 5:39)
Vs. 20-21 - Do good and not evil to those whom you have conflict with (prov. 25:21-22 + + + )
Conclusion
The ultimate reason for us to desire Conflict Resolution is not Peace in our lives but rather the testimony of Grace that exudes from a believer filled with Peace and Holiness “without which no man shall see the Lord.” We should all seek to not let any man to be defiled or turned away from Christ because of our testimony.
Today, if you know there is conflict in your life with other believers, your spouse, children, neighbors, co-workers, employees… whoever it is with don’t wait for them. You control yourself, you seek to pacify, you strive to overcome evil with good and have a good testimony for Christ. ( )
- bridle the unbridle-able tongue. Tame the untamable.
Behold, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey; and we turn about the whole body.
Behold, The ships though they be great and are driven by great winds, are controlled and turned by a very small helm. They are at the mercy and under the guide of the captain who can make it go wherever he desires.
Even so. The tongue is a little member and boasteth great things.
Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth.
