Faith isn’t blind
Faith isn’t blind
Today we are talking about Faith, Doubt and Questions. I think that in our churches we do a pretty lousy job of being a safe space to bring our questions about Christianity, life, what we believe, anything. The church should be the safest place to talk about our doubts or questions, because if not the church then where? Doubt and questioning our faith is something that is necessary for growing a faith of our own. see here in . Doubt and questioning our faith is something that is necessary for growing a faith of our own. see here in . There was a boy possessed by a Demon and his father brings the boy to Jesus and here’s what he says,
22 And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” 23 And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
if we read on we would see Jesus healed the boy despite the fathers unbelief. So this shows us that there is room for us to doubt, there is room for us to not be certain about everything all the time, I would say that a bigger faith is to have faith in God despite the doubts that we might have. If you are able to say I don’t know to a question a friend of yours asks you about Jesus, Christianity or the Bible and have that not shatter your worldview that is a testimony to your faith in God, despite your circumstances. If anything that should give you a desire to find an answer to help your friend.

I want you to know that if you testing and questions about your faith is something that Jesus promised us would happen. A Faith unquestioned and untested is no faith at all. Think about it, it is easy to believe in something that doesn’t cost you anything. But when your world is shaken and you are forced to wrestle with who God is, if he is good, if he can be trusted. Then you better believe that that is going to produce a greater faith because of what you have had to go through.
So I’m saying that doubt and questions are ok, and I want to normalize that when you are in your small groups or here at youth group, I want our questions and our doubts to be able to be talked about so we can support one another.
However I think that there is a tension here, because there are many verses in the Bible
A Faith unquestioned and untested is no faith at all. I’m sure we have all had moments where you doubted God, maybe that scared you not knowing why God would let something happen. Maybe in your doubt you turned to God and asked for understanding in those moments.
I have a little video that has 5 points that you can talk about in your small groups.
VIDEO
Here are those 5 points again, I won’t say too much about them I will give you the chance to look them over in your small groups.
But I just want to look at the last point for a minute. the idea that our questions won’t ever all be answered. Now I want to tell you that even though not having answers doesn’t seem like a good thing, it honestly is. It takes the burden off you to need to study and understand everything but it gives you the greatest benefit ever which is you get to trust the one truth that is undebatable that God, is good, he loves you and he sent his Son to save you from a life of
