Sometimes I wonder if we as disciple-makers have given so much attention to making disciples that we have forgotten what it means to be discipled ourselves.  Jesus said, “As you are going, make disciples of all nations”. The implication is that I am a disciple and that I will be going.  Even though there is no one “discipling me” I still need to be discipled.
When there is no one to disciple you here are a few practical things you can do to take advantage of God's provision for your growth.
Determine to make the most out of every encounter.  If we believe in the sovereignty of God there is no such thing as meeting someone by chance.  (; )  Observe actions of others. Ask lots of questions.  () This is one of the primary ways that Jesus taught. Paul's letter of I Corinthians seems to be built around answers to a series of questions the church has asked him (; ; ). Remember that iron sharpens iron. (; )  Through the years I have  Intentionally chosen to  get time with others who possess the strengths and qualities that Iwan t to have in your life?Commit to God that you are willing to pay any price to know Him.  ()  This could include but not be limited to money for conferences and books, time with people, energy and humility to serve others in order to be around them. Some of the best times of being discipled that I have had has come because I called the administrative assistant of very well known Christians and ask if I could pick them up from the airport and take them to their hotel or speaking assignment.  I had questions prepared.
Doing these things means that you will never have a time in your life without a disciple-maker.
