As I have been trying to “rest” in the Lord I find the question that I been asking is “what does it mean to rest in Christ”? The word “rest in scripture has several meanings; remainder, to lie dormant, etc. However, there are two definitions that have been particularly helpful to me. First of all, “rest” refers to a place. (; ; ) The Lord is my shepherd and as such He makes me to lie down in green pastures and leads me beside still waters. It is there my soul is refreshed.
There is another meaning for rest that is a verb. Though it sounds counter intuitive, there are things that we must do in order to rest in Him. is a wonderful explanation of what it is to enter God’s rest. Here resting is obedience.
– it is for those of us who believeHebrews 4:6 – it is because of disobedience that some never enter God’s rest. –it will take effort for us to enter God’s rest.
It seems so odd that Jesus calls us to take his yoke upon us and learn from him. () It is in our obedience that we will enter the place of rest.
One of my goals during this time of forced rest and reflection has been to sit still and pray, read and reflect. I thought it would be a good thing for me to only read biographies and books that talk about the sweetness of walking with God.  As I was reading "Abba's Child" by Brennan Manning the Holy Spirit convicted me that the best reading I could do is scripture. If I want to find God in a fresh, new, powerful way it will be in scripture where I encounter him.
But we see Jesus……”
