“Never Enough”

John 2:1–12 ESV

1 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. 9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. 12 After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples, and they stayed there for a few days.

—> Jesus seems to always be late

—> vrs. 1 —> the 3rd day

—> They had already ran out of wine vrs. 2

—> They had run out of what they had brought, what they had prepared for, they had run out of all they had

—> what are we out of???

These hands could hold the world but it'll

Never be enough

With out Jesus there is never enough. We will always run out. We will run out of popularity, being known, we will run out of feel good moments (special moments), we will run out of money, we could have everything in the world but it still wouldn’t be enough, without Jesus at the center.

—> Someone knows where to find more

—> vrs 3-5 Mary doesn’t know how it will happen but she knows who will make it happen

—> vrs 6-7 Jesus doesn’t use anything out of the ordinary for this miracle to happen

—> everyone had already used those jars when they had come in

—> it was normal, plan, ordinary, until Jesus made it more

—> vrs 8-10

—> What Jesus has for us is better than anything we could ever do for ourselves.

—> They gave the best they had and had run out.

—> Jesus took what was normal, plan, ordinary and made it the better than their best.

—> not just in flavor but in quantity (1,000 bottles)

—> Jesus provides in abundance what we can never supply for ourselves

—> why does he provide?

—> This wasn’t a party trick or a one and done

—> Jesus provide life for a young couple

—> In this day and time the wedding was the event and not just a one day, one evening event, it would be a week long gathering.

—> the groom is held responsible for providing everything and if something were to run out it would bring shame and dishonor on this new couple.

—> so from Jesus’ first miracle he sets the tone for the rest of his ministry

—> Jesus turns our shame and our running out of what this world offers

—> Into a fresh start and a new begining

—> Jesus wants to take your never enough and give you hope and future

—> Don’t expect this to look like what the world has though the lights, the recognition, the money, it will look normal, humble, it will look like worship, and service. It will look like Jesus.
