Intro

Love is more than words

Love is an action

Love is reciprocal

John 14:21 "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father ,and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."

Reciprocal Love

Reciprocating Love

  • It is not enough to simply have his commands, but you must obey them
    • God's commands are written on our hearts
      • Jeremiah 31:33-34
      • I John 2:27
      • John 14:26
  • Jesus goes on to teach that the one who love him shall be love of the Father
    • This is looking forward to the coming of the Spirit, who will reveal the Father's love, and Christ love, to us
      • Romans 5:5
    • There is also a foreshadowing of the cross
      • Christ willingly dies on the cross and the Father pours out his wrath to accomplish our redemption
      • Then they top off that love with the giving of the Holy Spirit
  • So how would you say that Christ manifest himself to us?
    • The Holy Spirit inspired the Scriptures
      • Without the Scriptures we are unstable
      • Our strength of affections for Christ is directly related to our knowledge of the Bibible
        • The more we
          • know Christ and obey him
          • we are guided by the Spirit
          • Christ is manifest to us and through us.
            • Romans 8:1-5
