Building this temple would bring glory to God as an act of worship . Solomon showed the world that God has blessed them with a land of their own and a fixed place of worship for God to dwell. What God wanted more than anything else was to dwell with His people. Throughout the Bible we see time after time, God going above and beyond to make a way for us to be with Him. We see the climax of this in the cross.

1 Kings 5:1–5 CSB
King Hiram of Tyre sent his emissaries to Solomon when he heard that he had been anointed king in his father’s place, for Hiram had always been friends with David. Solomon sent this message to Hiram: “You know my father David was not able to build a temple for the name of the Lord his God. This was because of the warfare all around him until the Lord put his enemies under his feet. The Lord my God has now given me rest on every side; there is no enemy or crisis. So I plan to build a temple for the name of the Lord my God, according to what the Lord promised my father David: ‘I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the temple for my name.’
Building this temple would bring glory to God as an act of worship . Solomon showed the world that God has blessed them with a land of their own and a fixed place of worship for God to dwell.
In what ways do you see people try to honor God’s name today? How do you try to honor God’s name?
Go to church
Read their Bible
Help others
Get on to others who say “GD”
Follow the 10 Commandments
Become a missionary
1 Kings
1 Kings 8:10–14 CSB
When the priests came out of the holy place, the cloud filled the Lord’s temple, and because of the cloud, the priests were not able to continue ministering, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple. Then Solomon said: The Lord said that he would dwell in total darkness. I have indeed built an exalted temple for you, a place for your dwelling forever. The king turned around and blessed the entire congregation of Israel while they were standing.
We see the holiness of God on display as His presence filled the Temple. Holiness means set apart, singled out, something special, to hold in respect or honor.
Our attitude towards God is communicated in how we act in respond to God’s word.
What are some proper ways to respond to the glory of the Lord?
With humility and awe for God’s glory
With praise and adoration for God
With blessing communicated to others for what the Lord has done
1 Kings 8:54–61 ESV
54 Now as Solomon finished offering all this prayer and plea to the Lord, he arose from before the altar of the Lord, where he had knelt with hands outstretched toward heaven. 55 And he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying, 56 “Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant. 57 The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers. May he not leave us or forsake us, 58 that he may incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his rules, which he commanded our fathers. 59 Let these words of mine, with which I have pleaded before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, and may he maintain the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel, as each day requires, 60 that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God; there is no other. 61 Let your heart therefore be wholly true to the Lord our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day.”
Or are you growing closer to God and the more you know Him the more you understand why you need Him?
You see the more we know this God the more we come to love Him. The more we love Him, the more we want to obey Him. The more we obey Him, the more we come to actually know Him. Its the never ending cycle.
How and where can you anticipate the presence and glory of God at work this week?
The Israelites were overwhelmed with worship as they looked upon a building that represented the presence of God and to see His presence fill this place. It doesn’t matter the place, our lives can be filled with worship whether in our rooms at home or on a pew at church. We can look and expect God’s presence and glory to manifest itself in our lives, if we are His disciple.
The purpose of a disciple of Jesus is to follow Him and honor His name by how we follow Him.
Are you ever tempted to believe that a relationship with God is all about what God can do for you?
If you are here tonight and you are a disciple of Jesus, is your relationship built on you following rules or living in awe and joy of the one who saved you? As long as you don’t live or talk a certain way, you think your relationship with God is great.
Or are you growing closer to God and the more you know Him the more you understand why you need Him?
You see the more we know this God the more we come to love Him. The more we love Him, the more we want to obey Him. The more we obey Him, the more we come to actually know Him. Its the never ending cycle.
Do you know this God that we speak about? Do you want to know Him? If so, let a leader in this room know tonight.
Myself, Kyle, Rachael, or my Rachel. We all love and care about you and want you to know the same joy that we have in knowing this God.

Let’s Pray
