Joshua Final Goodbye
Possibly speak on Washington saying goodbye.
Overview:
The place in which they meet was the sight of some pretty historical events.
Shechem in the past was the sight :
Where Abraham first received the promise that his seed would inherit the land of Canaan (promise land)
Abraham responded by building an altar to demonstrate his faith in the one true God.
Jacob stopped there to bury the Idols his family had brought with them.
Joshua and the Israelites traveled here after there first victory and Joshua carved the law on large stones and reviewed it with the Israelites.
There was special meaning to being in this place.
(Reviewing there blessings)
Through Joshua God gives a brief historical run down to remind/reminisce how he had provided for them this far.
(Responsibilities and consequences)
-Joshua charges the people that they follow the Lord
That they would turn from foreign gods and follow God Faithfully.
Joshua responds and says as for him and his family they are going to follow the Lord.
The people respond and say they will follow the Lord.
- Joshua really pushes them to understand the severity of the choice they are making and that they should not take it lightly.
(Reminder and Pledge stone.)
The covenant is recorded on a large stone and placed under an oak as a witness to them.
Then they all went back to there inheritances.
(Death and burial of a faithful 3)
Joshua- (the servant of the Lord) lived to be 110 and served the Lord and was buried in the territory of his Inheritance.
Joseph- Body was exumed when they left egypt to be buried in the promise land.
Eleazar- Was Aarons son and his replacement he plays a big role in the land dividing.
All three were faithful to the Lord until there death.
Mentioning them at the end of this chapter is a reminder of Gods faithfulness.
It is also a reminder to us that the Lord keeps his promises.
And we to can look on
