Spiritual Immaturity

INTRO:

When Paul arrived in Corinth:

(v1)—At first, Paul had to speak to them as Spiritual Infants or babies in Christ.

This is normal: When you come to know Christ you are an infant in the faith. The Corinthians were lack every other individual who came to know Christ.

(v2)—Now, Paul still has to speak to them as infants, because their lack of Spiritual Immaturity.

This is a problem: Instead of maturing in their faith, they remained complacent and lack spiritual growth.

I believe I am correct when I say the church is America resembles the church in Corinth. We lack Spiritual Maturity!

If you were to receive a letter today from your pastor when you got saved, what would it say?

Would it say? When you came to Christ I was not able to speak to you as spiritual people but as people of the flesh, as babies in Christ. In face, you are still not ready.

Or, when you came to Christ I was not able to speak to you as spiritual people, but now I am because you developed in Spiritual Maturity?

Today, we are going to pray through this passage and pray for spiritual maturity of the church.

I) Let us be Holy instead of Worldly (v3)

The Corinthians failed to develop in Spiritual Maturity. As a result, the church looked no different than the world around them.

They were led by the flesh. Paul writes, “Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar.” (Gal. 5:19-21)

What about us? Do we look different than the world around us?

We are called to be Holy—”Set apart;” “Different;” “like Jesus”

“But the fruit of the Spirit is is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

If we are going to be different, we have to allow the Holy Spirit to transform us.
