Intro

What:
Proposing a ministry focused on the 18-24 age group
Why:
Because we need to be retaining and discipling the next generation of church leaders
-Every child that is baptised in this church receives a covenantal vow from the congregation for help raise and guide them in their walk.
-The 18-24 years of a person’s life will be the time when ever fundamental belief that they have will be challenged and attacked. They need the fulfillment of these baptismal vows during these years more than almost any other time in their lives.

Readings

Slow Fade:
-only an estimated 25% of 18-25 years olds attend a 4-year university. The rest enter tech fields or Junior Colleges.
-These are the years there they either solidify or reject what they believe.
Let’s Go Fishing:
-Four Laws. The first is what I think we need to be doing: Go where the fish are.
The age group is the most conflicted category, and I’m worried that by pushing them into the young adult group(which has people in their forties with kids in college), or telling them to serve in the youth group, we are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
We are also neglecting to mentor them in the unique phase of life that they are in.
Why

8 Anchors to the Ministry:

1. Key Leadership 2. Stick to the Word (not a hype program) 3. Build through relationships 4. Engage the culture (help them wrestle with the world)
5. Nurture a community environment (off-site home) 6. Identify core influencers 7. Be consistent 8. Don’t over program
