Book Of Romans
As with all Paul’s epistles to the churches, his purpose in writing was to proclaim the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ by teaching doctrine and edify and encourage the believers who would receive his letter. Of particular concern to Paul were those to whom this letter was written—those in Rome who were “loved by God and called to be saints” (). Because he himself was a Roman citizen, he had a unique passion for those in the assembly of believers in Rome. Since he had not, to this point, visited the church in Rome, this letter also served as his introduction to them.
The importance of the “LAW” in the Old Testament -
It was a mirror!
Paul begins to deal with why we just can’t act right.
In chapter 7 Paul deals with the battle between the Law and Sin
Remember the Law is Good
Romans 7:12 ESV
So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.
Romans 7:15–16 ESV
For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good.
Paul is talking about himself and he is a believer.
I do not understand my own actions! I make stupid decisions.
The law of God is a mirror to point out the things I HATE!
Romans
Romans 7:17 ESV
So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
sin (personification) n. — sin personified as a destructive and depraved principle reigning over unbelievers and persisting in believers; especially as a slavemaster doling out payment with the currency of death and decay.

Dwells - Reside in (New flash “sin” lives in you)
Romans 7:18 ESV
For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.
Nothing good dwells in me
(meaning my flesh) -
sinful humanity ⇔ flesh n. — the physical aspect of a person in distinction to the immaterial soul; often understood as the seat of sin and rebellion to God.

For I have the desire to do what is right (But) not the ability to carry it out!
Romans 7:19–20 ESV
For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
Romans
Romans 7:21–23 ESV
So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
principle ⇔ law n. — a rule or law concerning a natural phenomenon or the function of a complex system.

Romans 7:24–25 ESV
Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
Romans 8:5–8 ESV
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Set their minds - to dispose the mind in a certain way.
Dispose: get rid of by throwing away or giving or selling to someone else.
to think thus v. — to dispose the mind in a certain way.
