The Coming Messiah

Genesis 1:1 ESV
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:31 ESV
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
God creates a good world, a world made for man to live in and thrive
This is a kingdom, God is King and Adam, and eventually Eve are to be His loyal subjects
Genesis 2:8-
Genesis 2:8–9 ESV
And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
So
Genesis 2:15–17 ESV
The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
2 trees, why? The only way to test true obedience
Will man stay submitted to God, will He remain King, or will they seize the throne.
Genesis 3:1–7 ESV
Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.
Genesis 3:1-7
Kingdom offer rejected, autonomy seized, rebellion and disobedience happen, this is sin and we’ve all participated, we’ve all taken the fruit
By taking of the fruit of the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, Evil is unleashed, pain, suffering and death come with it.
But God…
Genesis 3:15 ESV
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
A Savior promised, a Messiah or Christ will come
Matthew 1:20–21 ESV
But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:20-21
The name Jesus is actually Yehoshua in Hebrew, combination of two words.
Yehoshua to Yeshua to Joshua to Jesus as it becomes a name in different languages
Yahweh, which is the name for God
The word Shua which means salvation
So Yehoshua-it means Yahweh Saves or Yahweh is salvation
Matthew 1:23 ESV
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
Matthew 1:23
So Jesus is Yehoshua, Yahweh is Salvation
And also Emmanuel, Immanu is with us and El is from Elohim or another name for God, God with us
So what is Matthew telling us?
That this Jesus is God in the flesh who has come to bring salvation.
Salvation from what?
Matthew 1:21 ESV
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
Matthew
Jesus is the promised serpent crusher from ,
But clearly Messiah has come, two thousand years ago?
So what does this mean to us?
Matthew 4:17 ESV
From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Matthew 4:17
Mark 1:15 ESV
and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Gospel means good news, so what is the Good News Jesus is referring to?
That God has come to bring salvation to the people, but there is a stipulation.
What is the stipulation from these two verses?
Repent or turn around, turn to and move to and thereby turn away and move away from
From what?
From the kingdom that Adam and Eve introduced
A man centered kingdom where we define good and evil for ourselves, where we want to be our own king and rule and reign our own lives on our own behalf.
This is a kingdom of selfishness, of disobedience and rebellion, of sin, which continues to bring pain and suffering and ultimately death into our world.
Turn from that wicked and evil kingdom and turn to enter Jesus’ Kingdom
Follow Jesus because He is Emmanuel, God with us, come to do what we can’t and won’t
And He is Jehoshua, Yahweh is salvation who’s come to save us from our sins.
Just like Adam and Eve who chose to reject God and be their own king were kicked out of Eden, out of God’s presence, so our sin does to us
But God came to be with us, He came to live for us, He came to die for us, to save us from ourselves and bring us back to Himself, so we could be with Him in His kingdom
Place your faith in Him, follow Him, enter His kingdom and experience life the way God intends
