1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;
11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

That We Would Finish Well
INTRODUCTION
ILLUSTRATION
Use College Graduation as illustration.
Students aim to graduate
Best student aim to graduate with honor
Parents wants their children to finish well in college. Its their reward for their hardwork.
How much more in our spiritual aspect. It is important that we finish well the race.
11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Someone wrote, “It is important to start right, but it is imperative to end well.” Many people start well, but sadly end poorly.
We all want to finish well. That’s why this is the fourth reason why we should pursue spiritual growth passionately: so that we will finish well.
IF I WERE TO ASK YOU THIS QUESTION: How sure are you that you will still be in the faith 10 years from now?
Finishing Well: Grand welcome
Finishing Well: Grand welcome
“For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”
USE ILLUSTRATION: A victory parade we gave to an athlete who gave us honor in an international sporting event. Example: Manny Pacquiao/ Miss Universe
ANOTHER EXAMPLE: Stephen the Martyr in the book of Acts.
Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
55 But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
We know from the bible that when Jesus went up to heaven, He sat at the right hand of God.
19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,
Why was Jesus standing then, when Stephen saw Him? Because He was about to give him a glorious welcome for finishing well.
“The ultimate reward of a growing, Christ-honoring life is the personal ‘welcome’ by the Savior into His kingdom… it will be a wonderful ‘welcome home’
Finishing Well: Great reward
Finishing Well: Great reward
How can we finish well?
5 An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.
What are these rules that we are supposed to compete accordingly? As as Peter was concerned, there is only this: when we grow spiritually, we will finish well.
6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
2 Timothy 4
There will be a great reward prepared for those who finish well. God rewarded Paul for finishing well.
The bible teaches us that unlike gifts, reward are earned.
4 Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due.
Finishing Well: Glorious recognition
Finishing Well: Glorious recognition
23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
Your labor is not in vain in the LORD. There is a glorious recognition for everyone who finish well.
