The Feast Of Unleavened Bread

THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD

Lev.23:6-8

Lent 1998

Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Tabernacle

Introduction - This feast took place immediately after Passover and lasted 7 days.  7 speaks of completeness.

7-days creation, 7-times Jericho, 7-dips Naaman, 7th day-sabbath, 7th year, 49th- Jubilee.   Only the Lord=s chosen ones were to participate in the feast.  It was to be kept as long as the person lived.

I. It was a feast to commemorate the quick exit from Egypt.

                A. They left in haste - Ex.12:33-34, Duet.16:3

                B. Brought out by God=s power.   Ex.13:3

                C. To remember this event all leaven was to be removed from the house.    Ex.12:15

                                1. Not used in the baking process.  Leaven = yeast.

                                2. REPLACED with unleavened bread.

                D. Lasted 7 days, indicating the completeness of the Passover and Exodus.

II. Leaven in this feast was symbolic of evil.

                A. They were to cleanse the house of all leaven right after the Passover.

                B. Jesus compared the false teaching of the Pharisees to leaven.  Mt.16:6,12

                C.  The Word of God compares our old life of sin to leaven.1Cor.5:6-8

                D. Don=t allow the old to return.  Matt.12:43-45,      Eph.4:22-24

III. How do we apply this feast of unleavened bread to our lives.

                A. Once you receive Christ there needs to be a house cleaning.

                B. Unconfessed sin, hidden sin, etc. - all must go!      1 John 1:9

                C. Your salvation was quick - the moment you received Christ.

                                1. Jesus brought you out of darkness and into the light.  Eph.5:6-11

                                2. Don=t allow sin to linger around - a little leaven leavens the whole lump.  Gal.5:9

Conclusion - Today we keep the feast of unleavened bread by allowing Jesus to clean house and deal with sin.  And to remember how He has delivered us from bondage.  This work must continue until we get to heaven.  Then our sanctification will be complete.
