Introduction.

Tag was a fun game as a kid. One thing everyone hated was when a kid would get tagged and immediately sulk or quit. They wanted the fun of the game without the responsibility of having to be “it.”
Socialism is kind of like this. It creates a class of people who want to enjoy the benefits of an affluent society without contributing to the affluence of the society. Socialism is a dangerous ideology.
Socialism is, according to Merriam-Webster, “any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.”
Key words:
Economic
Political
Collective
Administration
Means of Production
Distribution of Goods
That really is what the church looks like, except in the church it’s voluntary.
Decisions are made collectively.
The economy is a collective effort.
Whatever we do, we do together.
There are great dangers in socialism. One of the biggest is that it creates a class of people who are dependent on the state.
Introduce theme of Christian socialism
How do we combat this danger? One way is by remembering what we are. We are a voluntary collective. We are the Body of Christ.

The Church is a Body ().

Many members equal one body (, ).
Every member is important ().
It doesn’t matter what you think ().
It doesn’t matter what anyone says about you ().
Abortion of Down Syndrome babies is the atrocity of saying, “We don’t need your kind.” The pro-life position says, “Every life is valuable!”
Even so, every member is valuable.
3. Every member contributes.
4. Every Member counts.

The Example of the Early church ().

Prayed together ().
Did Evangelism/Missions together ().
Went to church together ().
Took care of one another together ().
Ate together (, ).
Praised God together ().

What are the Dangers of Christian Socialism?

What are some dangers of Christian socialism?
A few people are involved in all the planning, while everyone else sits on the sidelines.
A few people do all the work while everyone else watches.
A few people provide the finances while everyone else barely contributes.
My fear is that many of you have fallen prey to the dangers of Christian Socialism.
Not interested, but want people to be saved.
Not involved, but want the church to have community impact.
Not godly, but want the church to have a good reputation.
Not giving, but want the church to survive.

What Can You Do?

Because God loves you and Jesus died for you.Because God has called you to serve Him through the local church.Because this church needs you!
If you’re not a part of the Body, you have a problem. You must believe the gospel and repent of your sins.

If you are a part of the Body...
If you are a part of the Body...
It’s time to stop depending on the handouts of others.
