Father help us that are weak not judge the strong as licentious

Grant us the ability to look past the things that are personal conviction to enable us to love one another and you as you would that we ought

Christian Liberty
Please follow as I read…
Romans 14:1–12 ESV
1 As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. 2 One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. 3 Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. 4 Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. 10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; 11 for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” 12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Romans: An Introduction and Commentary A. Christian Liberty (14:1–12)

Paul enjoyed his Christian liberty to the full. Never was a Christian more thoroughly emancipated than he from un-Christian inhibitions and taboos. So completely was he emancipated from spiritual bondage that he was not even in bondage to his emancipation. He conformed to the Jewish way of life when he was in Jewish society as cheerfully as he went along with Gentile ways when he was living with Gentiles. The interests of the gospel and the highest well-being of men and women were paramount considerations with him; to these he subordinated everything else.

Romans: An Introduction and Commentary A. Christian Liberty (14:1–12)

What is to be done when Christians of such different convictions find themselves in the same fellowship? Must they start to thrash the matter out, one side determined to convert the other? No, says Paul; let each one be satisfied in his own mind and conscience. Those who enjoy greater liberty must not despise others as being spiritually immature; those who have conscientious scruples must not criticize their fellow-Christians for doing what they themselves would not do. Each Christian is the servant of Christ; it is to Christ that each is accountable, both here and hereafter.

While we who are in Christ are free we are also constrained by Love come back next week to see how Paul leads us through that.
Prayer

God our father we so often seek to make the church and its people fit our own mold. We so often look at our brothers and sisters who are weak in their faith and despise them. We often look at our brothers and sisters who partake in things we ourselves have conviction not to and we judge them and even question their salvation. How foolish and blind we are. How quick to pass judgement on our neighbor. God grant us your Spirit that we might be transformed by the renewing of our minds that our hearts would be placed in tune with your own. Having the fullness of freedom you have alloted as well as abiding by the statutes and precepts you have so clearly laid out. Let us never move the boundary stone and yet let us always possess the fullness of your promised lands!! To you be the Glory as you transform us!
Benediction
