What Is God’s Will

That Sinners Be Brought to Faith in Christ ()

4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth

The Canaanite Woman
Despite the apparent resistance from our Lord, her faith was great because the object of her faith was Christ and His saving Word.
She agreed with Jesus’ assessment of who she is, “a dog” not entitled to God’s help . . . “I am a sinner.”
Despite the apparent resistance from our Lord, her faith was great because the object of her faith was Christ and His saving Word.
This is very important for the live of prayer. The struggle with sin in our lives and the constant temptations from the devil only amplify the struggles.

listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers is giving you. 2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

He Knows what we need (John 6:40)

listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers is giving you. 2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

8 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.

And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day

He knows what we need.

There Is One Who Opposes God’s Will

The Devil, the World, our Sinful Nature ()
God desires all to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. (2 Tim 2:4)
(1 Peter 5:8-9a)

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith

The Target

We pray this because we have a target on our back.
The Devil desires to derail us or separate us.
(Romans 7:18)

18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.

The tension between the “the lost sheep of Israel” and the Canaanites is obvious. The true children of God vs. the half-breeds.
God’s will is for all people to be saved, but we get sucked into debates and discussions on topics that cause us to lose our focus.
We want our will be done, not God’s.
The devil causes us to separate ourselves from God’s saving Word. The devil convinces us that “we don’t need” or “can skip” hearing the Word for a time. And just like he deceived Eve, he knows that the Word will preserve us in the faith.

Jesus Did God’s Will

Jesus came to do God’s will and do it perfectly.
The fact that God has redeemed you and made you his child is a constant reminder that this is God’s will for you.
