Where we left off

Without faith...
faith comes by hearing...
do not be hearer only...

Full of the Gospel

to live a full life, with full purpose, full power and full faith, you are going to need to be full gospel.
Now i dont mean full gospel in term of demoinination (though that never hurts) but you need to be full of the gospel.
Your life needs to be full of God’s Word and of the good news of Jesus christ and of the instructions for holy living.
without holiness....
Psalm 1:1–2 KJV 1900
1 Blessed is the man That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; And in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Joshua 1:8 KJV 1900
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
last week we saw how faith is our shield.
But we must understand that the word is our weapon, it is our sword.
Ephesians 6:17 KJV 1900
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
We use the Word of God to gain victory over Satan.
“A christian will always have the hound of hell barking and snapping at his heels”.
Look how when Jesus was tempted how skilfully he used the sword.
To each of the Devils temptations Jesus replied: It is written....
And note: Jesus had the word with him, not in book, but in his heart.
Only when the word is in our heart can be effective in overcoming satan.
Psalm 119:11 KJV 1900
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, That I might not sin against thee.
What if i drew swords now, let us spar - practice.
How good are you with the sword?
Where should I go if:
I feel alone and forsaken?
im thinking about suicide?
im considering divorce?
i am harbouring anger and unforgivness?
i feel unloved?
Im noting to embarrass or anything, im just showing you how defenceless you might actually be. And why living a full life might be eluding you.
Now i get it, the bible is a big book. some sections are very confusing. But this is why the only way to get skilled is to study.
2 Timothy 2:15 KJV 1900
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Why dont people read the bible?

talk about a million dollor question.
Well first we need to ask what i mean by the word “people”.
There are only 2 types of people. Those who are perishing and those who have been saved.
I know exactly why the unsaved, perishing dont read the bible: because it is absolute foolishness to them.
1 Corinthians 1:18 KJV 1900
18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
They pick up the bible and read foolish stores that must be fake. Virgins giving birth, people getting swallowed by a fish, people teleporting around like Stephen.
It is just to far fetched and foolish for them. I get it.
But my question is not really for believers. I want to know why professing christians dont read their bibles?
Especially since what the bible say the bible is to those who have been saved:
1 Corinthians 1:18 KJV 1900
18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Idolatry

The first reason boils down to idolatry.
When describing sinners look at what God say:
Romans 1:25 KJV 1900
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
They stopped worshiping God the creator and starting worshipping the creature. They exchanged the truth for a lie.
What is the lie????
You are your own god.
as your own god you get to decide how to live, you choose how to act, you choose what is right, you choose what is wrong, you choose your own standard.
In essence you becomes your own authority. And thats a problem. look at certain key social issues and ask: are your views in line with scripture or do you think that on some of these issues the bible is wrong?
Fornication?
capital punishment?
abortion?
Homosexuality?
The bible sets very clear commands of these issues. And if you held the bible as it is “the word of God’, then you would submit all your personal feelings to the will God and accept what He says about these things as the absolute highest authority.
Christians have given up their right to have opinions.
Acts 5:29 KJV 1900
29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
“men” includes me/you - to yourself.. - I must align my life with God, and i must conform my personal opinions on issues to that of God.
i dont get to have a personal opinion about something God has already made clear and settled.
And if i am not going to surrender the the authority of ~God word - then reading it will be absolute hell. or i will cherry pick verses that only suit me.
in stead of being full gospel i will cherry picked gospel.

Lazy

Have you heard of the man who was to sick to go to the doctor? There was also the couple whos marriage was to unstable to go to the councillor. There was a woman whos tooth was too sore to go to the dentist.
These are no different from the Christian who does not the read the bible because he does not understand the bible. And he does not understand the bible because he does not read the bible.
It is amazing what people will put time into.
Men know the names of sports players, but cannot name the 12 disciples.
Woman will know how much of this to add to a recipe but dont know the ingredients to peace.
Children will sing along to their favorite songs but cannot quote 5 bible verses.
and it all boils down NOT to intelligence but effort.
Knowing the bible takes effort. Studying the bible takes work. 2 week ago i began a personal study of abiding in Jesus. i have spent at least an hour a day on this study and 2 week in im still learning.
Proverbs 25:2 KJV 1900
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: But the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
God has given us his word in such a way that it requires study, and to the lazy that is a schlep - but to the children of God it is a joy and delight.

The Gospel

The longest chapter in the bible is dedicated to nothing but the glory of God’s Word ps 119.
Jesus will judge us on how obedient we are to His words.
John 12:48 KJV 1900
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
But for those who walking in the Word, blessings abound.
eternal life:
John 8:51 KJV 1900
51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

Revelation 3:8 KJV 1900
8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
1 John 2:3 KJV 1900
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
