Purpose & Mission

IntroI. Our Mission
Our mission is why we exist as a church…. Mission must be clearly defined and easily understood. So what is our mission here at Triumph? It the simplest of words it is this "To be a thriving church of growing Christians who are becoming more like Jesus, sharing their faith with others and impacting the world for Christ."Our mission is based upon our purposes as a church of Jesus Christ. The acts 2 church had a clearly defined purpose…They were to take this gospel into all the world…Our purposes are the same as we are an extension of the apostolic church…To: Evangelize - Disciple - Shepherd - Train Leaders

II. Our Purposes1. Evangelize

|  Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.           1. It was the lost that brought Jesus out of Heaven in the first place.·         Jesus told a parable one time that conveyed the message that all heaven erupts into celebration when one single sinner repents. ·         Lost people matter to God, therefore they should matter to us. ·         1 Tim 2:4 tells us it is God who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth NKJV Illustration – a few years age I watched a feature story on CNN about the Senior President Bush and his visit back to the South Pacific. During World War II, Bush had been a bomber pilot, and was shot down by Japanese anti-aircraft fire. The story detailed Bush’s return to the very spot where he was rescued from his downed aircraft.During his return visit, Bush met with a Japanese gentleman who claimed to have witnessed Bush’s rescue back in 1944. The man related that as he and others were watching the rescue take place, one of the man’s friends remarked, "Surely America will win the war if they care so much for the life of one pilot."·         2 Peter 3:9 tells us that “ God is not willing (Gk. - wishing; disposed to; intended) that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. ·         The greatest news in the Bible is- For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life….Jesus has done His part, now it is time for us to do ours! 2. The Great Commission is our mandate… Matt 28:19-2019 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, NKJV ·         This is no easy task...requires great energy, courage, diligence etc...A power that we do not have within our own strength. but: ·         He has given us the power to get it done…Acts 1:7-8- But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." ·         This is speaking of the baptism of the Holy Spirit…is the mantle of Jesus on us… ·         The mantle of Elijah fell upon Elisha… they said, ‘The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. ·         The Baptism of the Holy Spirit was not given to make you superior to other Christians…Not given to give you goose bumps or put a sway in your step…The Holy Spirit Baptism was given so that you would have the power and blodness to share you faith with everyone you meet. 3. Heaven must be a place of continual joy and celebration…However there is one thing that causes the joy level to increase exponentially. * When one sinner repents and confesses faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus said: -  7 I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. NKJV There are two extremes we as a Church should avoid to be effective in evangelism:#. Isolation- unfortunately after we are saved and began to serve God, we have very few friendships with unsaved people. We may work with them, but we don’t spend enough time to impact there lives for Christ.

We can be so radically different they find it hard to relate to us. We have a message, but no impact.      #. Becoming Worldly- We can become so worldly that there is no noticeable difference between the world and the Church… We have and audience, but our message will not have an impact. We are not salt and light…

    • The Challenge is to identify with the world and reach out to people in love without compromising…Paul said “we become all things to all men to save some.”

    • At Triumph Church, we want to be a refuge for the world, not from the world. |

B. Disciple
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you Matthew 29:19 NLT  1. To many Christians are in neutral…they are comfortable in their Christianity…never really going anywhere. Col. 2:6-7 -  As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.           2. A primary purpose of the church is to help you grow as a Christian.·         Paul said we must may grow up in all things into Him who is the head -- Christ ·         Christ became what we are that He might make us what He is”·         My goal each Sunday and Wednesday is to bring a message hope, healing and instruction for you spiritual journey… each time we are together I hope to enlighten your mind and enliven your heart to take one more step toward spiritual maturity.·         If you are like Apostle Paul, no matter where you have been and at what stage of growth you are at, you will say. “forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,…I am moving forward…·         Hebrews 6:1 challenges us to move beyond salvation and go own to maturity.           3. God has a plan of movement for you…He wants to move you from:·         Sin to Righteousness·         Shame to Glory ·         Defeat to Victory·         Self-centeredness to Serving others·         Death to a Life ·         God wants to move you to the place that you are more like Jesus.           4. At Triumph, we are committed to spiritual growth.

C. Shepherd
Acts 20:28 - Be sure that you feed and shepherd God's flock, His Church.1. The Kingdom of God is extended through love…and we extend the love of God through our service to others in the body.2. If people have a heart for God, they will have a heart to minister to the needs of others.·         Because all ministry flows out of relationship             3. The Acts 2 church ate together, shared material possessions together, prayed together and met and learned together.·         They genuinely loved one another and they loved being together. John 13:34-35Jesus said -  A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."NKJV o    As they demonstrated love, their lifestyle attracted others be a part of their community and to follow Christ.

D. Train Leaders

|  2 Tim 2:2 - Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others 1. This has come to be called “the ministry of multiplication,” and it is God’s method for propagating the good news of Jesus Christ. Eph. 4:11-12- And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, o At Triumph, we recognize the urgency of raising up leaders at every level of ministry. o  No mission is ever accomplished without good leaders.  2. Six things every servant-leader should know: 1.     You are a part of the Body of ChristRom 12:55 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one member’s one of another. KJV You not a part of His body by accident…1 Cor 12:18 but now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. 2.      You Have Been Given a Spiritual Gift.

      • God has gifted each of us to be able to serve other people so that the Church might be built.  1 Cor 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:   3.      You Have a Specific Job to do 1 Peter 4:10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. o   You don’t need a special training to serve others…Availability is just as important as ability… “  4.      God Sees What You Can Become, Not just What You are Now o   Jesus said to the disciples, “I will make you fishers of men.” o   Jesus focused on their potential, not their past!!! #. You Have To Make A Commitment To Movement  o   God will do His part and you must do yours…Jesus said, “come, follow me”. o   They had to let go of their nets and follow Him. We all have to let go of what is familiar and comfortable in order to trust the grace He has for us.  #. We will be Judged According to Our Works

Matt 16:27 says:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Eph. 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.  Servant Leaders will bring multiplication to the church. |
