THE Impossible + THE Unreasonable + Jesus= CHRISTIANITY
THE Impossible + THE Unreasonable + Jesus= CHRISTIANITY
13 Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place.
John 5
Today we are talking about the impossible, the unreasonable but when you add in Jesus anything is possible. What we need more than anything today, More than another light and smoke show, more than a bunch of fair weathered Christians thanking God when things are only good, more than we need another slick 3 piece suited preacher, preaching another feel good message, more than any of those things we need some of that Old Time religion. When sinners are kissed by the grace of God and made new creations. Where people get the fear of God back into their lives and quite playing in the devils playground and get their heart and life right with the Lord.
You know today we want to set around and gripe and complain about all the things that are not right in our life. there used to be a time in the churches history that we believed that if you got yourself right with God everything else would begin to work out. And you know what God is the same yesterday , today and forever, Those old time principles that worked then will work today. We are living in a culture today of relative Truth and any morality, which the Bible used to call immorality
If you have your Bibles open up to the book of John chapter 5
1 After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades. 3 In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. 5 One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” 7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.”
John 5:1
9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.
Now that day was the Sabbath. 10 So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.” 11 But he answered them, “The man who healed me, that man said to me, ‘Take up your bed, and walk.’ ” 12 They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?”
John 5:
JESUS STILL REACHES OUT TO THE One
13 Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place.
John 5:13[
Now there was a multitude but jesus reached out to the One! Arent you glad today that Jesus still reaches out to the One. Maybe you came to church this morning, just wondering if this whole jesus thing is real or not! I want you to know that jesus Still reaches out to the One.
14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.”
Now again the John whole mission of writing this book is so that believing on the Name of Jesus that He is the Son of God, you may have life in His name
And so the miracles, are really more than miracles. They are miracles with a message, they are sign with significance.
Now it says here that these were a group of invalids.
SIGN 1 Water to Wine- Jesus is the answer to our disappoiontments
We have already seen one other miracle and the word for miracle is is the word sign. Jesus turned water into wine. But it wasn’t about the wine, it was about the peoples disappointment.
Can I say to you I may disappoint you, Your mother and uncle may disappoint, but can I say that Jesus never disappoints. Can I tell you that there are a lot of people that there have tasted the goodness of the Lord, but after a time fall away, usually because they just love darkness, and the love sin, and the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is just too high a cost for them to leave.
But you need to understand that the devil has no happy old people. There will come a day when you no longer have your youth and your vitallity. There will come a day when you no longer have that pretty face and that charming smile, there will come a day when your wit will run out and your strength will shrink and your ability to make money will seem old and boring to one. But can I tell you there is a distinct difference between the older people that I know that have a close and wam walk with the Lord and those that do not.
Now we get to our second sign… Healing of the Invalid
Hebrew tongue Bethesda,”—by the way, that means “house of mercy”
They were Impotent that is they were invalid- That means that they had no strength, were without power
Sin robs us of our inner strength

But Jesus is the solution for our inner strength
But Jesus is the solution for our inner strength
Are you disheartened today?
Do you feel like everything around you is zapping you of time and strength?
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
Isaiah 4
16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
Introduction to the Man that is without strength
This man had been there for 38 years. And Jesus asks him a very importantn question
6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?”
Do you want to be healed?”
Do you want to be healed?”
JOhn 5:Do you want to be healed?”
Now it seemed like a silly question. It seemed like an impossible question. And if we had been standing right there and didn’t know who Jesus was and he asked this m,an that question we would have thought it an unreasonable question. But the impossible, plus the unreasonable plus Jesus = Christianity
Now it seemed like a silly question. It seemed like an impossible question. And if we had been standing right there and didn’t know who Jesus was and he asked this m,an that question we would have thought it an unreasonable question. But the impossible, plus the unreasonable plus Jesus = Christianity
Now question, Jesus was in a place where where there were many people with ailments, with paralyses, with problems, but He only heals the opne man. Now the question is why? If Jesus was just a healer, and his ministry focused on healing, why wouldn’t he just heal everyone? Thats a good question. He asked the one...
This is what I know about the Lord, He is not in the wholesale business. He never passed people thrugh like cattle through an auction. He came to One.... Why? Because this man is a representative of you and I. THis man is a man without power, a man without strength. Now this mans powerlessness is physical, but this miracle has a message, it has significance
THE WORD FOR MIRACLE IS REALLY THE WORD FOR SIGN....
31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
He didn’t come as a great healer, he came asz saviour. and the real miracle is now the Physcial healing that took place in this mans life, but the spiritual healing that took place… And jsut so we don’t think this miracle has anything to do with our spiritual paralysis Jesus tells this man
14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.”
Jesus is Gods answer for man’s weakness, God’s answer to your utter spirtuial paralyses. We are born sinner.... and because of sin iut causes weakness.
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
We are sinner by birth, sinners by choice, sinners by practice. Now not every sickness is related to our sin. But this man’s sin was directl associated with his sin. And Jesus warned this man that He had been made well, Sin no more that nothing worse happen to you. We are living in a time or truth decay. Not tooth decay, truth decay. Where we have turned God’s love into sloppy agape, and we no longer take him seriously.

HERESA GREAT TRUTH … God doesn’t want you to do anything for him. He wants to do something through you. Somme people are so big that God could never be glorified in their life, because if God were to do anything miraculous, something extraordinary they would selfishly soak up the glory for themeselves, puff out their chest and say to everyone yes I am the man. Listen you are not the man, I am not The man, Jesus is the man, the son of man and the Son of God and when He is liufted up he will draw all men unto Himself.
But listen faith is not inactivity. It is not l;aziness, it is not an excuse to roll around in your inability. He doesn;t want you to do anything for Him, but he desperately weants to do something through you. Have you come to the cross and said not my will but thine be done. I know a lot of people are saying God not your will but mine be done. He hasn’t made you to soak, sour and complain because soembody at church didn’t say hi to you today. He wants to use you as an instrument of righteoiusness, and when you are filled with the Spirit of God, you will have the confidence to say I am a bad man!
In the previous chapter that John went over last week of the woman that Jesus met at the well, we didn’;t get to that, but after Jesus read her mail and called her out, She immediately went out and spread the word and many cam to faith in Him … and later He told his disciples
34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.
Listen the field is white with harvest, and some of us need to quite whining about our services and we need to hit the pavement of soul winning through the week. We need to quite want to be served all the time and get to serving.
We have this Easter thing coming up in a couple of weks. Do you know how you can use that thing starting today? You can use it as a conversation strter with your neighbors, your friends with your co workers. And then steer that conversation to the Lord!!
Dr. Harry Ironside used to be the pastor of Moody Church, and before he was the pastor of Moody Church, this great Bible teacher and expositor worked in the Salvation Army. And, he said in an article I read many, many years ago that he was holding a street meeting with the Salvation Army, and they had the brass band there, and people were giving testimonies, and so forth. And, among those giving a testimony was a man who had been a gutter drunkard who had been saved and transformed and been made over anew by the grace of our dear, wonderful Lord. But, while this man was giving that testimonial, a well-dressed man standing on the periphery of the crowd called out and said, “Mister, you’re living in a dream world. There’s nothing to that. You are just dreaming.” And, that well-dressed man felt then a tug on his coattail, and he turned around to see a little girl with a pretty face. And, she looked up at him and said, “Sir, that man who’s talking is my daddy. He used to be a drunkard. He used to come home and beat my mother. And, we didn’t have enough food to eat, and I didn’t have enough clothes to wear. My mother used to cry most of the day. And then, my daddy became a Christian, and now we have plenty to eat. And, look at my pretty dress. And,” she said, “Mamma sings most of the day.” And then, she said, “Mister, if my daddy is dreaming, please don’t wake him up.” Amen?
