Nora and my shoes.
I pretend to sleep and she takes my shoes off and runs toward the front door.
I don’t care if my shoes are on or off, but it gives her so much joy, it warms my heart.
God want you to be obedient to Him
God wants you to enjoy the creation he created for you.
God doesn’t want you to be a Debbie Downer Christian.
If you are being disobediant, and getting what you want, its not a blessing, its a curse. It the drug dealer saying here take this it will make you feel good.
This morning we are going to look at the first miracle Jesus performed in the book of John and what we can say about God, Christ and our relationship with Him.

Water into Wine

John 2:1–11 NASB95
1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; 2 and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” 6 Now there were six stone waterpots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it to him. 9 When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom, 10 and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.
: 1-
On the third day. After the last recorded event, Jesus conversation with Nathaniel.
Cana of Galilee: About 9 miles from Nazareth.
Wedding- Marriage festival would last seven days or longer. The celebration included food, wine music.
Mary - They have no wine: Honey the trash is full. She wasn’t just telling him about the problem, she was requesting him do something about it.
Jesus’ response. “Woman” Not derogatory. “What does that have to do with us” It is a rebuke. Jesus is telling her that he has no intention of doing anything about it.
“My hour has not yet come” Nine references in the gospels about Jesus’ time or hour. Referring to his purpose to give his life on the cross for our sins.
Mary- No response to Jesus. to the servants. “Whatever he says to you, do it.”
6 pots 20 to 30 gallons. for purification. 120 to 180 gallons. 600 to 900 bottles of wine.
fill them to the brim. drew water and took it to the headwaiter.
Best wine.
His disciples believed in Him.

It’s a miracle

Wine is 86% water. Over 1000 different compounds.
Hydrogen peroxide H2O2 will turn into water. It’s not a miracle - its science.
Water will never turn into wine.
Miracle vs. Providence. If I pray for $737.00 and God speaks through the Holy Spirit of another person and they come to me and say that God laid on their heart to give me $737.00. It is no doubt the hand of God, but by the strictest definition, it is not a miracle.
I have never witnessed a miracle. That doesn’t mean they don’t happen.

Our asking with faith can change God’s mind.

God was going to destroy the Hebrews in the desert. Moses pleaded to God.
Exodus 32:14 NASB95
14 So the Lord changed His mind about the harm which He said He would do to His people.
E
Amos: God said he is going to raise up a nation against Isreal. Amos pleads with God
Amos 7:3 NASB95
3 The Lord changed His mind about this. “It shall not be,” said the Lord.
Amos 3
God was willing to change his mind about Saddam because of Abrahams plead
Jesus changed his mind about the wine.
It was the faithful request of his mother.
Mary made the request in faith not that he would do it , but that he could do it.
Then she gave it to God and left it.
How many times do we pray about something, and then continue to worry about what is going to happen?

No request is too small

Jesus’ first miracle wan’t to raise the dead, heal the sick, to part the Red sea again.
It was to provide wine for a party.
God loves you and cares about every aspect of your life.
All our requests are small to God. If we have a loved one that is sick and we pray for their healing, and God answers that prayer, they get 20, 50 years left on Earth.
Our lives pass by as a vapor compared to eternity with Him.
tells us we don’t have because we don’t ask.
Jesus said in Matthew chapter 7 loaf/stone fish/snake.
Matthew 7:11 NASB95
11 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
Paul sais in
Philippians 4:6 NASB95
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Pray for one another
Pray for the lost
Pray for the sick
Give thanks to God for everything you have
Pray for that new Harley Davidson or that old Chopper
If you are playing guitar hero, pray that you have the perfect song.
If you want to lose weight, pray that God quenches your appetite.
Pray that you have a good hair day.
Pray that the dogs don’t poop in the floor.
If you are sitting on the toilet playing a game on your phone, pray that you get to the next level before your feet fall asleep.
But Todd, if we pray about everything, we will be praying all the time. Ah-haaa
If you enjoy the creation of God, without acknowledging The Creator, you are headed straight toward idolatry.

Sometimes the answer is no

Sometimes we ask, but we don’t receive.
We ask with the worn motives . (squander)
We ask without faith. (surf of the sea)
3. No is what we need to hear no. Paul with the thorn in the flesh.
4.
C.S. Lewis once wrote, “We are not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be.”
4. God has something better in store.
5. I don’t know.
Invitation
Come down and pray for what you want.
Come down and give thanks to God for your blessings.
If you have been hurt by God. Come down and tell him about it, reconcile with God, open your heart to him.
If you don’t know Christ. You’ve been to church, read the bible, know about Jesus, but never repented of your sins and surrendered your life over to Him.
I will lead you in a simple prayer.
Do that as soon as I finish praying for us.
