Introduction:

1 John 5:2–5 KJV 1900
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Victory is Born

“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world”
Statement: Jesus said, “Ye must be born again.”
John 3:16 KJV 1900
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[THE GOSPEL — EMPHASIZE GOD’S LOVE] BUT GOD!!
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV 1900
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
HAVE YOU BEEN BORN INTO CHRIST’S FAMILY?
Jonah 1:12–13 KJV 1900
And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you. Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.
John 1:12–13 KJV 1900
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Statement: No matter what family, or situations or circumstances you were born into in this life, Christ loved you enough that He gave His life so that you could be born-again in His family. Born into a new life of Victory!

Victory is Bought

“And this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”
Overcometh = be victorious, overcome, prevail, vanquish
Statement: Victory over sin cannot be gained through determination or discipline. It’s not about dedication or dominance! Your victory over sin has already been delivered, through cross of Jesus Christ!
1 Corinthians 15:57 KJV 1900
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Statement: Apart from Jesus Christ, all the determination, all of the goals, all of the steps and programs lose their effectiveness. You may succeed for awhile. You might even turn your life around. But without resting in the complete work of Jesus on the cross, your victories will be temporary, and empty. Through Christ you can experience the victory of an overcomer!
Overcometh = be victorious, overcome, prevail, vanquish
Overcometh = be victorious, overcome, prevail, vanquish
Ephesians 5:15–18 KJV 1900
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
eph 5 15-1
Statement: Victorious Christian living is not about how much sin you can get out of your life. It’s about how much of Jesus you can get into your life!
ILLUSTRATION: Walter Payton
1001 Illustrations that Connect Illustration 824: Keep Getting Up

Walter Payton, who was five feet ten inches and 202 pounds, was not a particularly large running back for the National Football League. But he set one of sport’s greatest records: the all-time rushing record of 16,726 yards. During his twelve-year career, Payton carried the football over nine miles.

What is truly impressive, though, is that, on average, he was knocked to the ground every 4.4 yards of those nine miles by someone bigger than himself. He kept getting up, and he kept getting up, and he kept getting up.

Great victories await those with great endurance.

Proverbs 24:16 KJV 1900
For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: But the wicked shall fall into mischief.
OBJECT LESSON — Empty Glass
ILLUSTRATION: Faith is a Shield
Quote — “Without the Spirit of God, we can do nothing. We are as ships without the wind, branches without sap, and like coals without fire, we are useless.”—Charles Spurgeon
QUOTE
A safari hunter was startled by the loud screeching of a bird. When he caught sight of the bird, it was darting back and forth around its nest. He was perplexed by all the racket until he noticed a huge snake moving up the tree. The hunter could have easily aided the bird with one shot from his gun, but he was captivated by the drama before him. As the snake slithered up the tree, the bird became silent and flew from the nest. It now seemed as though the snake would dine without resistance. But, before the reptile could reach the nest, the mother bird returned with a leaf in her beak. She carefully placed the leaf over her babies then flew to another tree. The snake raised his head to strike but then hesitated. It froze as if it had met a foe. Slowly it recoiled from the nest and wound its way down the tree. The puzzled hunter related the event to native Africans when he returned to his camp. They laughed with enthusiasm as they explained this unlikely victory of the bird. The leaf that the mother had used to cover her nest was poisonous to the snake. What looked like nothing more than a leaf was in fact a life-saving shield.
Jesus Christ Himself said, “apart from me, ye can do nothing.”
Our faith may at times feel as flimsy as a leaf, but God's Word reminds us that it is a shield against the attacks of our serpentine enemy ().
Ephesians 6:16 KJV 1900
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Statement: If you feel defeated, like you can never reach your goals, you can never stick to a milestone, you always end up falling back again, perhaps you’ve been forgetting that your victory has already been bought, so tap into the power of Christ!
